I blow mine out with a blower, then mow them into a bag for disposal.

10 years ago we moved into a duplex, and the previous residents hadn't done **** with the lawn in years. The backyard was a mess, with minimal actual grass and waist high weeds. The first thing we did was pull all the weeds. The second was bag up all the live oak leaves from the tree back there. I pulled out about 25 45 gallon trash bags of mulched leaves, and this yard was only about 40x30, if that. After 3-4 years of keeping it raked and leaf free, the grass had taken back over half the yard and was growing in really well when we left.

If you have live oaks, the only way to keep grass is to get all off the leaves out. You can keep them down by keeping the trees trimmed and removing sap suckers. I've started doing that, and my front yard has finally turned more into grass than a mix of grass and weeds. The backyard is a bit of a lost cause because it never had grass to begin with, and the trees are way too tall for me to trim. Someday I'll get it under control though.

Not mentioned, something like this for larger lawns, AllFitHD 50 in. 26 cu. ft. Lawn Sweeper from HD

Tried Billy goat (seems good for level suburban lawns)…
Sweeper holds 2 bags of leaves, have 2acres and 36 oaks, worst year of 4… dumped 100 times in adjacent lot…raking by hand, NO WAY…would have burned the property down before doing that, but I digress…good luck!

Has anyone used a stationary shredder with luck? We're on a very long lot with 30+ year old red oaks and pecans, and the neighbors have live oaks so I get to do leaves twice a year.

I use a backpack blower to clean out the flower beds and push everything into the yard. Mowing with a bag is easy enough, except having to stop every 10 feet to empty the bag. I have three 96gal yard carts, which lets me do half of my front yard before filling up. So it takes 3 trash days to fully do front and back.

Considering giving something like this a try. Would dump the mower bag into the shredder, hoping to increase the area I could cover before filling my bins up.

I have one, and it works great to cut down on bag. First year we owned our house we raked, about 18 bags worth of leaves. Next year I used the bagging mower and got it down to 6-7. This deal cuts it down to about 3-4. It struggles with pine needles but does great on deciduous trees. Helps to have a decent sized stick to shove leaves around if it gets too full and jammed. I use the candy-cane looking weed eater string and it lasts well. Have used the shredder for about 3 years with fairly heavy use in the fall and no issues with durability.

I have the worx leaf vacuum and that stationary style in you linked. The stationary is much faster in my experience. We have some of the big leaf bags like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PELIBSS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title and I just set the mulcher inside of the bags. I took care of 3 piles that were probably about 6-8 feet wide, 2-3 feet high in about 35 minutes this past weekend. Hardest part the bending down. I may get some of the little hand held leaf scoopers soon.

Thanks JDCAG and Rillo. Worx has a 15% of sale going today so I went ahead and ordered one to give it a shot. Cheaper than 3 visits from a lawn service, so it's a decently low bar. Will report back.
