Hello TruService HVAC,

I asked about my inside unit sweating profusely in it's closet on another thread. Here are pictures. Additionally all vents/registers on the same side of the house as the ac closet have dry mold on the fins. The vents in the main room in the middle of the house & the vents on the other side of the house are clean. I change the filter & pour a cup of vinegar down the overflow every month. Please advise.

Thanks for the images. Wow! Based on what I see it would appear as though you have major duct leaks at the top of the unit and possibly beyond. The black streaks on the vents could simply be attic insulation that's being pulled into the air stream by a Venturi effect due to air gaps and leaks. With the unit running you're likely able to feel cold air blowing around that area. It definitely needs looked at.

Thanks for the reply. We are like half a mile from the bay so it is very humid here.

Are you saying there is conditioned air leaking from the top of the inside unit where it goes to the ducting in the attic? Or are you saying there is likely ducting leaking in the attic somewhere? I have been up in the attic several times & can't find any leaking duct lines...........I haven't checked the top of the unit closely.

Do you think I should try a dehumidifier in the ac closet before doing much else. It seems like the closet is relatively well insulated

Home is less than two years old. Insulation is blown in white insulation so I am doubtful that is the black stuff on the grills.

The unit cools our house comfortably & does not run all day long. Again I do appreciate your reply & time.
