Gottcha. Makes more sense that I was thinking. Yes - agree with ChoppinDs40 and give it some time.

I think it'll be fine but yeah I'd probably take a light rake to it after a few days

I have a dethatching blade for my mower that I might use on a high setting. Just enough for the little plastic tubes to get the top of the grass I got it in an attempt to get more live oak leaves that had worked their way down out of the head and into the bag.

That last pic was about 2 weeks after I laid it.

10 yards. About 105 wheelbarrows loaded and dumped and raked

My body hurt like a BC Hebrew.

I guess mine's pretty normal then. When should I expect the grass to grow through? Should I be concerned with the caking keeping it down or anything?

Your pics look great. We are not really in growing temps yet - even in Central TX. Remember, you need 60s-80s consistently to start growing. Right now, we get a week of it and then the next week is cooler. Once we get to those temps (probably early to mid-May for you) your grass will take off. Don't worry about keeping kids off it and don't mow mow until you don't see much of the compost/soil. The material will go where it needs to.
Did you fertilize before you topdressed? When we get to those growing temps - fertilize.

You should be fine, but the manure in your topdressing is causing the "caking". You may want to break that up a little.

I did in a few spots and it looks better. I'm going to try to hit it harder this week. We were out of town for Easter and too busy leading up to it.

This was last year in late April.

Grass may start taking off this week. But probably not for a few more weeks once it's consistently in the 80s
