Ok so we went back to the drawing board on our remodel plans to try to minimize major layout changes and save some cost. Cabinets and all surfaces will be updated.

We don't need a tub but I think this area needs one. My first thought is clawfoot but I'm wondering if some other design might be more practical and less likely to go out of style (but I have no idea and I do think the clawfoot tubs look great).

Any ideas on clawfoot tubs or alternative styles? Or other suggestions on doing something else where the tub currently is?

Is the right door the water closet? Assuming you don't want to mess with the ceiling angles, that is not a bad set-up at all.

What is the distance wall to wall in the current cove where the tub sits? If you're going to do freestanding, the larger the better....if you're actually going to use it.

Update the vanity surrounds with nicer mirrors and wall pendant as opposed to top-lights.

Kill that off-center recessed above the tub and add a hanging fixture above the tub at the apex.

We did a freestanding soaker from here. Lots of various styles and sizes. My wife had to have a tub during our remodel 9 years ago. Hasn't been used once, but looks good.

We bought our house so didn't do it, but prior owners removed the tub, made the shower slightly larger and made the tub space into a sitting area with 2 drawers under it.
I use it every morning to get dressed, as i lay my clothes on it at night.

I'm tall so never use tubs. Spouse never uses them either. So a giant plus for us. Also a place for kids to sit when trying to do their hair on Sunday.

No those doors are both closets. Water closet is off to the left out of the image.

And yes, that is the plan to update the vanities and mirrors and use wall pendant lights instead.

It's about 4'10" between the closet walls where the tub is. I like the suggestion of hanging a light fixture but would that be unusual over a tub?

We could certainly do without the tub, but know that it could affect resale a little bit. We are not likely to sell in the next 10 years though. And we have two other tubs, but they're both upstairs.

I kinda like the idea of some sitting area with extra storage instead of the tub. I would not have thought of that. Thanks!

Not at all as along as you match the size/scale to the space.

We are leaning towards keeping a tub there.

Most of the freestanding tubs would be pretty tight in this space. Builder sent me a link to a Koehler freestanding that is 56" long. There is only 58" between these walls. Would that be stupid? I'm ok with a drop-in or alcove style I suppose.

I'm not too worried about the issue people mention regarding difficulty cleaning around and behind them.

Any thoughts?
