Getting our master bath remodeled. Home built in early 90's has one of those corner drop in garden tubs. I think that's what they're called. Our contractor suggested we consider a free standing tub. He admitted it can be tough to clean the area behind the tub but a free standing tub opens up that corner. He also was quick to say he'll do whatever we want.

Wife is leaning towards another drop in. I tend to agree with our contractor and there's some nice looking free standing tubs available. I know "happy wife, happy life" but are there other considerations I'm not thinking about?

I think this is the key part of your post. For me, personally, corner garden tubs always look dated and I would ask if you want your bathroom to be fully remodeled and still look like it was built in the 1990s. Is there a particular functional reason she wants a garden tub?

She is concerned about being able to get behind a free standing tub to clean. Also is concerned it would be harder to get into and out of a free standing tub.

I agree with your comments. Free standing tub seems to provide a cleaner look, more open and some tubs actually add to the visual look of the space.

I had a freestanding tub in my last house. Yes, it was a tight squeeze behind it, but since the wall was tiled behind it, we just used a Swiffer wet to clean the floor and walls behind it. Realistically, it doesn't need to be "hospital clean" because it's not like anyone will see it, anyway.

Jacuzzi corner that WIFE selects will be heaven ,,, even if only a Lowes/HD low-end model but consider higher end and thus make it the last one.
