Doing anything when the pump is running on the pool.

The pool is clear & blue, but noticed today the hot tub looks like heck...
I switched the controller to spa & watched the valves turn, it worked.
Then changed to "spillover " & watched valve change again...everything there seemed "ok"
Pump is on high now, but there's no water spilling out of the spa like it has since day 1....

I cleaned the filters last month...
Wonder if it is a pump issue or did something get get stuck somehow in the suction line?

I'm confused, when you put it on spillover did it spillover into the pool?

Yes, that's what's got me confused about what's going on...

What is normal operation for your pool?

For instance, if you have a raised spa, normal operation would be to pull water from the pool and return it to both the pool and spa.

What asked spillover operation do?

That's how it normally works.

In spillover mode, all water is pumped into the spa

When you have the pump running in normal pool mode or better yet spillover mode, is there any pressure coming out of your returns? I would assume not or it would fill but just checking. What about when it is in spa mode only, is there any pressure coming out of the returns?

In spa mode I could see the water circulating into the spa, when I put it in spill over I just watched for the water to come out of the scuppers and it did.

In the normal pool mode, had no circulation in the spa and no water spilling into the pool from the spa.

I won't be home till after dark, but I am starting to think maybe the dog was chasing something around there and bumped the valve handle to the spa return......

or could it be as simple as a filter issue, even though I cleaned them at the beginning of last month?

It sounds like something is off on your pool mode, not sure why you'd have a spillover mode if normal operation is the same as spillover mode.

If everything controlled by a single pump?

I have a client who doesn't like to run his spillovers with the pool. It's set up to be on demand with a dedicated pump. Because of this, I have his spillover run once in the morning to do a water exchange and then it circulates once in the afternoon for an hour to chlorinate.

The way I understood it when it was put in about 8 years ago, in the normal mode water is pumped out and back into both the pool & spa, allowing water to spill into the pool.

In Spill over, all the water pumped out of the pool goes back into the spa only, creating a larger spill over..

and yes, only 1 pump.

Sounds like your valve actuator at the returns/spillover got messed up. There's a switch on the bottom and it may have gotten flipped the wrong way accidentally.

Can you post a photo of your equipment? I can walk you through it if I can see it and you know what pipe is which. There's multiple ways this could be plumbed so seeing it would be easier

Your valve configuration looks fine assuming that it was piped by a competent installer and has worked previously. The static pressure in the system should tell you what's happening. Low SP may indicate a suction side blockage. High SP will point towards filters. Could be many other things but with 2 pictures to go off of that's where I'd start. How old are the filters? When you pull them out and run the system does the system spillover normally? Any whining or screaming from the pump? Did you adjust rpm (if vfd?)

Happy to help you with this if you are in Houston, I own and operate a service company and have helped many Ags on here in the past.

Thanks, I am now thinking filters, even though I just cleaned last month. I assume you're talking about the gauge on top of the filter tank, and it is reading on the high side.

I will get them checked and cleaned again first thing tomorrow....

If you cleaned them recently and they are high again it's probably failing media. Cart filters are 2-3 year lifetime. How old are your filters? Cleaning them again will do nothing to fix this.

I will have to look up exactly how old when I get home tonight, but I would say easy 2 if not 3 years old......
