Looking for some recommendations on chainsaws, either electric or gas. I have Ryobi batteries so would prefer to not have new chargers/batteries. I back up to mostly pines, that like to fall over, so it'll be for occasional use.

I have a 34.4cc Echo that served me well through last year's derecho and hurricane cleanups. It goes for $220. If I were buying today, my choice would be the larger 41.6cc version that is on clearance now for $230.

Just cut like butter a 2021 freeze dead Windmill Palm that fell over presto with the smallest Ryobi chain saw. They make longer ones now BUT so slow, might consider more Volts than my 18 version.

I have several echos and they are OK, but I also have at least 4 Stihl saws, and I am just a huge fan of them. They always seem to run. Two of them are from the 70's and were in my barn and hadn't been run in 30 years and when I filled them up they fired up and idled. That doesn't mean new ones will perform the same, but I am a huge Stihl fan for reliability.

I don't think a battery powered saw is going to bring you happiness if you need to saw up a full trunk of pine, but if you are MOSTLY cutting branches, then I might actually look that direction.

this has 56 Volts,
my Ryobi only 18v (why I mentioned more voltage above)

Kudos for the Stihl power saw & this homeowner Echo saw recommendations! Will pass along.

BTW did anyone fear this guy was about to cut his own rope ... that high up? I know I would have .... but never would ever be that high up nor on the pole itself.

FWIW - I've heard from woodsmen that the Stihl Battery chainsaw lineup is awesome. Guy used gas chainsaws all his life and got his hands on a Stihl battery one and was floored by its performance.

If it is mostly occasional pine work I would recommend a Stihl MS251 or MS271.

The stihl battery chain saws are impressive especially for occasional, medium-light work

I was given a Stihl MS 250C that I was told wouldn't run.

It ended up being the spark plug boot had come off and it fired up using at least 5 yr old fuel once I buttoned it up.

I bought the Echo line of multi attachments for yard work but was seriously impressed with that chainsaw as well as the Stihl weed eater my sister has (she gave me the chainsaw after moving off of her acreage in OK).
