We have a built in computer desk adjacent to our kitchen/breakfast area that has been a computer and mail area for a couple of years. We bought a hutch and I powered it and installed lights in it to be out coffee area, but it was taking up a lot of space and the desk was being under utilized, so we decided to make a change.

First up was assessing the plumbing situation. There is a powder room on the other side of the wall so I knew I had water and a drain in the wall.

Opened it up and found out pipes were copper and drain was further away than I thought. Had to try and squeeze the drain in because we were planning on a 24" sink base cabinet, but ultimately decided to go with 30" just for sale of symmetry.

I have only sweat on one cooler fitting on the last so this was a chance to get a little bit more skilled in that area.

While working on it, I gouged one of the pipes and decided to cut it out, which added to the excitement. If I were to redo this, I would have run the new drain further over to the left for better under cabinet line up, but oh well.

We were back and forth on what we wanted to use as far as cabinets go. We were thinking really hard about repurposing an old dresser, but the awkward size and depth was really limiting our options and then I would have to do a lot of mods to make it sink ready. Next, I was going to build something, but while I was exploring cabinet options, a guy said he would make a custom cabinet for $800 and it would be ready in two days. Well hell, you can't beat that. With the cost of materials, this probably only cost me $400-$500 and saved me several days of work. Cabinet is 61" wide and 18" deep, 30" sink base and 30" three drawer section with faces that match our existing kitchen. Painting it green which is the color we are going to do the rest of our kitchen lowers in in a couple of months.

Hit it with Sherwin Williams shellac primer and Sherwin williams trim enamel in evergreens on the exterior and went with a cheaper combo of primer and paint on the interior, but same color.

Removed the old countertop this morning and I am done with the first coat of paint on the whole thing so went ahead and installed it in place this morning.

Reusing the same granite as it matches our kitchen granite. Sink and faucet will be here today and will be installed tomorrow afternoon.

We head on vacation Monday so the rest will be done when we get back.

I will be putting zellige tile on the back wall as a backsplash and adding a wormy maple floating shelf as well. We will be doing the same tile and floating shelves in the kitchen when I redo it as well.

Looks cool but man, I hate those multi-turn valves.

It's not a multi turn, it's a quarter turn, just has the same handle as multi turn.

Same. I have them under my kitchen sink and every year or so when I use them... I stop and think, I need to replace these.

Lookin' good. You're proving to your wife that you're basically ready to re-do your kitchen.

T&Ps to your budget.

Good news is I already have the new range hood vent fan, tile, paint and most consumables and wormy maple for the shelves. Shouldn't be too much more spend beyond that until she finds $10 drawer pulls since we need something like 42 of them.

No, it's about a 4" extension so blocking it didn't even cross my mind.

I swear we ordered the faucet last week but when I looked at Amazon it was never ordered so now I can't have a working sink today. Very aggravated the order somehow didn't go through. Going with a delta bar faucet with hot and cold.

El jefe and paqueno trabajador knocking out the sink install. No faucet but at least there's a hole now.

Got it mounted. Sink is 12x10x9 deep. Perfect for rinsing out the coffee pot and ninja creami bowl. This was previously a desk and had a rounded front edge and we opted to keep it to increase counter space since this area is only 9" deep. This causes the lip to encroach a bit on the top drawer but only a couple inches and it doesn't really bother me as a trade off.

Still have some touch up paint to do tomorrow and I out the doors on upside down like a dummy but I will deal with that tomorrow. Hard to see the color but it's a fantastic green.

Hold a blank piece of paper up to half your face and let the little one do a crayon rubbing.

We had a delongi for 10 years they had espresso and cappuccino maker and almost never used them so when it crapped out we decided to just get something much more scaled back. Pretty happy with it so far. In the interim we had a ninja and returned it after something like two days because it absolutely sucked.

I'm not sure why I said it was 9" deep, it is 18" deep, so not quite as tiny but not as deep as a normal counter top.

Just got back from vacation and faucet was here. Not installing it until I get the backsplash in. Also realized I will need to put some little outlet covers on that outlet since it is so close to the sink.

Is that outlet protected by a gfci outlet upstream ?
Sea Speed
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yes, but the little outlet inserts will help me sleep better at night. That outlet probably won't be used much now that this is no longer a desk and now is a wet bar.

Zellige layout prefit. We decided against the floating shelf and are just going with one big tile wall.

Oh man there was water on the floor yesterday looking like it was coming from under the counter and my heart sank so hard so fast. Dried it up and slid a piece of paper under the cabinet and it came back dry thank goodness. Guess someone just spilled something. Whew.

I wouldn't worry that much as long as it's GFCI. The code says you must have an outlet WITHIN 2 ft of the sink. Close is just fine.
