24 hour or otherwise? What are some of y'all's preferences?

Finally getting to move back to the 210 after moving away as a kid (military brat/did my own USAF stint). Planning on living on the NW side near the I-10/Loop 410 interchange until wifey and I buy a house, and wanna know where we can get a good workout on and play some pickup hoops.

TIA!

I prefer the various Gold's that used to be Spectrum/Racquetball and Fitness locations. Those are all over. We also have a membership to the YMCA since the Thousand Oaks location is so close to our house.

I've never never been in a 24 Hour or Anytime Fitness. Something about them really turns me off. I worked out at an LA Fitness a few times just to try it out. It's all nice and new but I didn't like it. I actually like older gyms a lot more for some reason.

Lifetime Fitness are supposed to be very nice, but I've never been to one and assume I wouldn't like it for the reason above.

I go to Lifetime and its 24hrs which for me is a must. As mentioned it is very nice and has all the amenities you could think of. However if you don't plan to use all of those things the price may not be worth it. It does get crowded but there are plenty of machines and they have two courts with one of them almost always having a game going.

Golds is nice, and cheaper! they don't have all the features, (I don't think all locations have a pool and bball court, locations are tiered), but will get the job done certainly. Rogers Ranch Golds is very nice(nicest?) and has a good bball scene, likely this location is priced similar to lifetime.

Everybody I know who goes to LA Fitness really likes it, I've never actually been in one. The only knock I can see is they aren't 24hrs.

Anytime Fitness in my opinion is overpriced for what you get, those places are tiny. The big sell is that there is one close by and always open, but Golds and LA Fitness locations are all over San Antonio.

Hope this helps, just check one out next time you drive by. Those gym people LOVE to sell memberships.

I go to Mission Crossfit near Broadway and 410, but let's not start the crossfit discussion. Just saying I go there and I like it.

Chime in if you need a real estate agent. My wife ('96) is one, and I know there are a few more Aggie real estate agents on here that would all be happy to help.

I don't care one way or the other about crossfit. Whatever works for people, is what I say. I just build my own workouts. It's all good.

As for a real estate agent, I absolutely will be in need of one later this year! I'm leaving the military and starting a job down there, but my wife ('11) will be finishing up her active duty service commitment here in MO until early next year. Planning on doing some preliminary househunting in the coming months after I have my feet under me.

I would greatly appreciate getting in touch with your wife's practice as well as those of the other area Ag real estate agents in the near future. Thanks again, sir!

T-Bird, thanks, I sent your email to my wife. Happy to help. Good idea on taking your time to find a place.

I was in the Air Force as well and that is how we ended up here in SA. Just never left after my last assignment.

Love Mission Crossfit. Moved to Stone Oak a few years ago and if it wasn't an hour commute I would still go to Mission.

We recently joined the Thousand Oaks YMCA. It is nice and very reasonable. $78/month for both myself and my wife.

I recommend it.

I don't really care for the Golds, 24-Hour, LA Fitness type gyms. I work out at the JCC at Military and Wurzbach despite not being Jewish. They have a couple basketball courts, a large outdoor heated pool, tennis courts, and lots of fitness classes if that's your thing. Weight room isn't terribly fancy, but it gets the job done. Also, I think it's only $30 a month.

Love Mission Crossfit. Moved to Stone Oak a few years ago and if it wasn't an hour commute I would still go to Mission.
I live about 2 miles from Comal Crossfit, but my office is near the airport. So, I make the commute before the sun comes up and before the traffic starts. 30 minutes to MCF. After the workout, it's 5 minutes to the office.

I go to Mission CF as well. been going off an on for two years since they were back at the Rector location. No 'roid rage, meatheaded behavior or general ******tardery. just come in, get a workout and get on with your day. Drew is a class act. Going to miss Nick and Ed, but wish them well in their new venture.

Used to be a member at Spectrum, but when Golds bought them, I left. they have effectively killed what made Spectrum great. Wife was going to Lifetime for a while, she found them to be expensive, pushy about training and overrun with high school kids at times. That said, she always noted that it was clean....which would matter most to me.

Where are those two opening their gym? (Assuming that's why they left) Would love for them to open in Stone Oak but that's not happening.

I think those are one of the two best coaches in the city and a big hit for Mission.

Ed and Nick are still working out the plan. Beth is going to join them. Email me and I'll let you know what I know. Yes, especially for the morning crew, Nick and Beth will be a big hit for Drew and MCF.

What time of the day do you (F2Fox & Coolaid) go?

My kinda scene, tbh.

I work out like an animal, but no need to put on airs about it or otherwise make an ass of yourself, IMO.

Shut up and lift/workout, and go about your business.

Tried to pm you but can't for some reason. I'm interested in what plans Ed and nick have. Do they have a location in mind? I use to go to the noon class at mission taught by Ed but changed gyms when I moved to stone oak. Biggest thing I miss about mission was the music. Every other place plays horrible workout music.

Piggy backing off you tbird. Anyone know any good spin/ yoga classes near i10 and 410. I'm moving into the colonies north area behind sprouts. I'll get a free Gold's membership with work but I'll pay if anyone knows of something close. I go to a small gym now and love it

No problem with the piggyback. Will pass whatever info you glean about spin/yoga to wifey.

Speaking of Crossfit gyms. Does anyone know of one for my commute?

I live off1604/90. I take 90 all the way as it merges with I10, past 35 and 37 to WW White.

I would like something on the way or close to "on the way," where I can shower after and head to work.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

The yard at the Dominguez Unit would probably have everything you need

Seeing as how there are Crossfits across from Crossfits, I'm sure you can find one anywhere you go on that route.

Ended up joining Gold's Gym. Their location on Babcock is a stone's throw from my apartments and has a nice full size basketball court.

Might switch next year depending on where wifey and I find a house, though.
