Has anyone been able to shoot anything other than red heads in the upper laguna madre, (Corpus area)? If so, please teach me your ways. Or at least tell me you have so that I can gain hope.

Haven't been quite that far south this year but I have had success with Pintail and widgeon before. Seen a few mallards and golden eye near Seadrift this year as well.

But, that area is the Redhead capital. I got a lease near Garwood this year but thinking about closer to CS next year.

I went down there this last weekend and we got after the redheads and it was on a blue bird day. A few friends of mine headed down to Baffin Bay and shot limits of pintail. I may just have to load the boat and head south.

My daughter and I hunted near Pita on Sunday afternoon. We shot our two redheads apiece then started packing up well before sunset.

In the past I've taken a few other birds in the ULM including a pintail, scaup, a can, black bellied whistlers and mergansers. Missed a buffleheads once. Never taken a wigeon, teal or gadwall in the ULM. But lots and lots of redheads. Mostly redheads. Did I say there are a ton of redheads?

It's common too see a lot of ducks that aren't redheads on Laguna Shores Rd. between the causeway and Carribean. They like to loaf tight to the bank because they know they're safe there.

We shot our red heads near pita also, easy hunting. Down near the causeway I shot at two gadwall flying by. They were out of range but you will never drop a duck that you don't shoot at.

We used to shoot pintail and bufflehead all the time in the ULM (mainly in nighthawk) but its almost like the red heads are invasive and kick everything else out these days. A lot of my friends said that they have been killing widgeon near baffin and near bird island. I'm not sure I believe the bird island story but I guess I will find out next year! Happy hunting, time to focus back on the fish.
