My Fianc and I are looking to book a venue downtown so that our guest can hopefully be prevented from driving afterwards and stay at a nearby hotel. Anybody have some good recommendations? Looking to keep it below 8K

TIA

I have no idea how much these cost.

We went to one recently at the Briscoe Western Art Museum. I thought it was nice. We had a good time.

A wedding at the Majestic Theater was pretty amazing, but probably way out of your price range.

The most fun I had at a wedding downtown was on the veranda at Mexican Manhattan. I would bet that it wasn't that expensive. They rented a river boat that kept making circles and takings guests on tours. That was fun after a lot of free margaritas.

Didn't enjoy the one I went to at the Weston Centre.

I always recommend the Southwest School of Arts and Crafts. We got married there and it was the first place we looked at that we both really loved. It is an old convent with a beautiful chapel and outdoor area right on the river. There are hotels easily in walking distance, too. I don't know how expensive it was but I know it was reasonable compared to most of the other places we considered.

Not downtown but close. LAMBERMONT, across from Fort Sam. Owned by Pat Liston, class of 1984.

Pearl Stable is nice and not as expensive as you would think. I have also been to a wedding at a place called ZaZa gardens that was pretty nice and I don't think is very expensive.

Check out the Havana Hotel. Navarro @ St. Mary's

I second bam02. The SSA is lovely and you can rent the Coates Chapel, which includes access to the outdoor courtyard and River Walk access, for $4K on Saturday and $3K on Friday or Sunday (plus security guard at $30/hour).

Their website advises booking well in advance (up to a year) for a Saturday wedding.

Bright Shawl (Junior League building) is where we got married and had reception with Granger Smith. The venue was very reasonable but you are on your own for coordinating but you can line that up pretty easily.

We did ours at La Vallita. It was under 1000, then we got were able to buy all the booze ourselves and get TABC servers through the caterer. Then you can literally walk right on to the river walk.

AT&T COMMUNITY CENTRE is reasonable and a perfect location. Its across from the City Hall and a block from San Fernando, Main Plaza, The Courthouse and the Riverwalk. Lots of great historic places for pictures. The address is 231 West Commerce.

The Southwest School of Art & Craft is a beautiful setting for a wedding. Old, rustic, lots to work with. Very popular place for events.
