Tried Burnwood '68 today.

It was really good, and a two-meat, two side plate was only $10. Kind of expecting that to go up when this current unpleasantness is up.

They are running a limited menu right now, but I tried everything on it and it was all good. Brisket, chicken, ribs, sausage; potato salad, mac and cheese, pinto beans, creamed corn. I'd say the pork ribs were a bit sweeter than I like and the pinto beans were a little too salty, but otherwise it was outstanding. Drove around back and they have a great patio setup, so I'm looking forward to using that frequently.

Used to be a food truck on Bandera that had the brisket that was as good as Snow's. JW Marriott hired him to run their BBQ out there. Waiting for him to show up again. Mesquite shack BBQ.

Bare Bull BBQ near Canyon Lake has been our favorite the past few months. It's a bit of a drive from North Central SA, but it's good BBQ.

2M is my favorite, but Smoke Shack is a close 2nd. 2M has better brisket but Smoke Shack has better ribs imo. Also Smoke Shack has a sandwhich called the Mack Daddy, thank me later.

Agree with everything. EOT

They are good. In fact the chicken place that was in that spot before them (red birds) was really really good too. Wish they were still open.

Quick funny story. We went to the lake one day and stopped there first. I didn't even realize I had in a smokey Mo's shirt I got at taste of the north side (Another good bbq spot IMO). They said they would give me a free shirt if I would take that one off an put theirs on. So I did.

Then on the way home, the wife and I stopped at the most convenient thing to our house for dinner. Which is Smokey Mo's. But now I had a Bare Bull shirt on.

Ok maybe just I thought it was funny

Well personally, I like Rudys and Bill Millers.

Smoke shake has the best mac and cheese.
Big bibs is good too. They sell kool aid which I find pretty funny.
Barbecue station is the closest place to my house and where I usually go, although they don't have mac and cheese.
Urban smoke is good too.
Somebody mentioned Blanco BBQ. I went there once years ago and it was good.
Best place I've been is Salt Lick

The first reply to this thread was the correct answer, Blackboard BBQ in Sisterdale. Call ahead to make sure they haven't run out then take the drive through Boerne and out to Sisterdale. Get you BBQ to go and drive up the road to the Sisterdale Bar (yes, its open on weekends) and eat at one of the picnic tables on the patio while drinking a cold Shiner Bock.

BBQ Station definitely has mac & cheese (unless they dropped it in the last couple of months, haven't been since November). They have the best meat selection of the places in SA that I have tried. I really enjoy their smoked turkey. It helps that they are also very reasonably priced for BBQ these days.

Anyone tried Bandit BBQ yet?

My barber (yes I went and got a haircut finally) recommended them. Definitely not traditional Texas BBQ based on their pics.

Will try them out this weekend and report back.

Just because they're making tacos and sandwiches doesn't mean they're not "traditional." Lots of restaurants are making new dishes using traditional cuts. Sweet Brotherton's in Pflugerville and Valentine's in S. Austin.

If you want "non traditional" examples check out Loro in Austin or Khoi and Blood Brothers in Houston.

Let us know how it is. Always looking for new places to try when I go to SA or Yancey.

Those stores also got a surprisingly good review from Daniel Vaughn, BBQ Editor for Texas Monthly, aka @bbqsnob.

Brisket and turkey are good. Also like some of the stuff they do like the loaded cornbread. I am trying to frequent small businesses that are struggling right now so I probably will stick with Burnwood until they are up off the ground, but when things are back to normal I really want to try the dinosaur rib at True Texas BBQ.

I only got the sausage once and it was pretty dried out.

If that happened to me, I'd call and talk to the owner. He's a reasonable guy. Maybe he'll invite you back on his dime. Possibly the staff was having a bad day. Either way, $90 is not something to sneeze at.

Been to Blackboard BBQ in Sisterdale several times, always good. When you get done/full drive another 1/2 mile west and stop at the Sistercreek Winery for a tasting and get some of their excellent Moscato. Trust me.

I live between two bros bbq and Blanco bbq. Both good. But I think two bro's is better and more consistent

B&B smokehouse down on southwest military is good too. But a little pricey for a south side hole in the wall

Brisket - surprisingly good
Chicken - has a slightly sweet rub on it, similar to Grub Rub.
Cream corn - very spicy and nowhere near as good as Rudy's.
Sausage - good
