He was writing about (and against) forced contributions to churches, not the payment of taxes to government.

And payoffs for zoning issues and such.

It is pretty tenuous to stretch that money that is supposed to be used for representing indigent people who have charged with a crime to using it to represent illegal aliens in deportation proceedings.

I assume the commissioners ran that by the civil attorney for Bexar County. But who knows.

• County Judge Nelson W. Wolff.
• Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores, Precinct 1.
• Commissioner Justin Rodriguez, Precinct 2.
• Commissioner Marialyn Barnard, Precinct 3.
• Commissioner Tommy Calvert, Precinct 4.

If true, does this surprise anyone? This court has been extremely liberal for a long time -- and it's been led by a very liberal judge.

Barnard was the only commissioner to vote no on this, FYI
