RIP Red. You may have been a teasipper, but few people have done more for the City of San Antonio.

He and his Aggie buddy Lowry Mays created a media behemoth in Clear Channel Communications.

I think Red was a 'do the right thing' kind of a guy, and although his sports teams made him a lot of money, I really believe he was driven to put his efforts in it to benefit San Antonio as a community. We definitely would not be the same place without him and others taking the lead on the Spurs and many other ventures.
Greater love hath no man than this....

When my sister was in college my dad was teaching her the art of negotiating a car purchase. After instruction he told her to go to the dealership (the car she wanted was in Red's dealership) and negotiate the best deal she could. Basically teaching her to be an adult. Well apparently the sales associate treated her very poorly. Treated her like a no nothing girl etc etc. she left not buying a car and was upset when she told my dad what happened. My dad wrote a letter to Red to let him know he was disappointed in his dealership yadda yadda yadda. Not expecting anything to come of it or even a response. Red wrote him back and had conducted a sting operation of sending a friends daughter into the dealership and was treated the same way. The salesman was fired and Red personally offered to make sure my sister had a positive experience if she would come back.

More than a few years back MZ R and I were at Floores Country store in Helotes for a Ray Price gig. I went to the bar for a beer and Red walked up. Not one to miss an opportunity I said, "Red let me buy you a beer." He said, " I got this round. You can buy the next one."
