My dad turns 70 in a couple of months. He's coming down to San Antonio and wants to do something like visit a military museum or something possibly gun related. He'll visit the Nimitz museum in Fredericksburg on the way in. We won't be going to Corpus, so the Lexington is out. I thought of that tank place near Uvalde, but that's out as well.

I read Ft. Sam has a museum. Has anyone been there? Are there any other suggestions? I appreciate any help.

Thanks!

You probably already know, however the Nimitz museum has grown into the National museum of the Pacific War and it is an all day trip. It is huge!

Ft Sam used to have some cool stuff but since 9/11 I am not sure if you can get in without military id. The old officers houses were really cool, Bradley, Patton, Eisenhower etc… have plaques on their base house. The quadrangle, where Geronimo was held, had a museum, but this was many years ago.

One of the best military museums in SA. My son loved going there as a kid and i loved it also.

If you are not retired military work on getting a pass, Ft. Sam previously mentioned, Lackland has some great planes on static display. The bar can't be too high for a pass as I cleared it. I got mine at the Visitors center, main gate at Randolph. Texas Air Museum at Stinson is a good thought, listen to the "Guy..."

Museum is pretty small but is worth a quick trip. Check hours before you go.

They brought in the traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial when it opened. It was awesome to see…

I haven't been since my dad was stationed there and have heard it's even nicer now.

Second Museum of the Pacific War. It's a hard place to visit, but we cannot forget. Fredericksburg is an hour from SA.

At Camp Mabry in Austin. It's a pretty interesting museum. Probably an hour and a half drive depending on where you are in SA
