I don't think the lack of stadium is the anchor around San Antonio's neck when it comes to getting an NFL team. How much longer are we going to keep being gullible?

Exactly - we have more Cowboy fans per Capita than Dallas. Jerry won't let SA get a team. Maybe if Jerry dies before the next round of expansion, then maybe we have a chance.

The point in all of this is that when the Alamo Dome was being pushed at the polls in the 1990s it was sold as an enticement for professional football team. You know, like the Spurs, but without a full time tenant. It's like a car salesman trying to convince me I need to buy a van because someday I might have 8 children. Reality is that after thirty years I realize I only needed a car for the two kids I had, and I use the van to haul stuff from Home Depot once a year.

We gits sold a bill of goods with the AlamoDome just like all the folks that believed the Spurs arena on the east side would be an economic engine.

Believe it or not I am not against a new arena for the Spurs downtown. I just hate the fake reasons people are giving for it.

Although the city never got an NFL team, I couldn't imagine not having it. A city of this size needs a venue of that size. People already ***** and moan that SA is boring, etc. think of all the sporting events, concerts and events that we would not have been able to host over the last 30 years. And it's not just that but you need something like that for a city to grow and business to come in and/or stay here. You have to be aspirational and visionary and sticking with status quo to save money that the public isn't even paying for is not how you do that.

The lazy approach is what the city did with the airport many years ago and it's forever changed the wealth of this city because no big companies wanted to be located here because of a subpar airport.

The UFL killed the Detroit and Memphis teams too. And the "constraints" in that letter was that the AlamoDome was too big. They want "more intimate" stadiums for their teams.

Attempting to achieve that low bar regarding ticket sales, aren't we UFL?

Probably could t come to terms with SAISD for Alamo Stadium, which is one of the best places in town to see a football game IMO

It worked for the San Antonio Toros

I am sure both will pass, apparently the rodeo one might have a slightly higher chance though?

The dome is consistently used for UTSA football, concerts, and march madness when they came to town, what are we even complaining about here?

It only took 18 years after the dome was built to attract a college team to play football there. Absolutely visionary.

The new arena isn't being built to attract a team.

In the previous three pages, did I say that it is?

Have the Spurs said they would leave town if we don't build them a new arena?

The dome is actually one of the few buildings of its kind to break a profit, especially given the fact that there's not a major tenant.

They've been openly flirting with Austin for a few years.

Wish Austin would have obliged. Can't wait for the creative ways our dear city council finds a way to get their hands into our pockets again or to completely squander all this money being "donated" by tourists.

the Spurs ownership would have sold the team to realize their gains, Spurs would have the pick of Seattle Vegas or Austithey were 100% gone

Would San Antonio residents get a cut of those capital gains?

In the interest of disclosure, even though I railed on this here, I still voted for Prop A and B because 1) I think the Spurs should be playing downtown, and 2) I would like to see what the rodeo and stock show can do with the Houston Street campus without having to work around the Spurs. I just hope they don't tear down Freeman Coliseum

I don't get the negative attitude towards this project. Who ever signed off on the Frost Bank/AT&T center leading to the city playing catch up with project Marvel should be to blame. Or is it the same people??

why would SA residents get a cut if they left?

had they left we would never get a sports franchise again

That wasn't really a question for you as much as it was a response to the sentiment that the voters own the Spurs.
