Thinking of buying a boat and we are new to the area.
Where do you recommend we dock it? Thinking of family pontoon or family cruiser type.

Your only real choice right now is Canyon.

LBJ, Buchanan are a much longer drive, but they are both near full. Canyon is around 70%

Medina. 10% - Sheesh.

There's also much smaller Lake Dunlap and Lake McQueeney on the Guadalupe near NB. Both are constant level lakes but McQueeney is currently dry as they are redoing the damn

My parents leave their boat at Crane's Mill Marina at Canyon.

They drug the marina out into the middle of the lake so you can still access your slip even with the water levels down.

No public ramps on McQueeney.

there's a public ramp (and a paid private ramp you can use) on Lake Placid. But all the docks are private.

(this is as of a while back when I lived there. may have changed, and I'm not sure what the dam/lake level situation is like now. bottom line, not what you're looking for unless things have really changed.)

Placid is having the dam replaced as well and is empty until the end of the year. Once they fill it back up, there's a brand new marina at Highway 90 where it crosses Lake Placid.
