I'm Catholic, my wife is Protestant. We are looking for a parish in San Antonio that has good preaching and good music. These are requests from her to feel more comfortable at Mass. in particular, we would love to find a parish that does the "St Mary's Mass parts" for the Gloria, Agnus Dei, etc. (the way they did it 6-7 years ago, before the new church was built. IYKYK).

Any recommendations? Cross posted on R&P board.

Look into Our Lady of the Atonement. It is an Anglican Ordinariate so maybe your wife would feel comfortable with some high church protestant influence including married priests.

Lots of young families. Very good priests.

Happy to discuss more, just reach out on dm.

Lol quite familiar with Our Lady of the Atonement. I love it. My wife hates it. She grew up in a very low church Protestant environment. Baptist/evangelical.

FWIW, we used to be in a Lifegroup at Mission City Church, and 2 of the 5 couples in that group converted to Catholicism and now attend OLA.

I think St. Mark's has a lot of Aggies that go there

How cool about the lifegroup couples!

Maybe the UTSA Catholic Student Center? I've been and thought it was nice.

We attend St. Peter Prince of the Apostles in Alamo Heights. Father Jorge is a young, charismatic priest - he teaches about the faith and "why"… the faith can be intense, but he makes it approachable IMO. The music on Sundays is also very good - strong choir, and great piano/organist.

A dear lifelong friend of mine is a Deacon at St Gregory the Great and also happens to be a Fightin' Tx Aggie '87. I do not know anything about that or any parish in SA but if u wish I can PM you his contact info. He would happily familiarize you with numerous parishes in SA.

My parents were one of the first parishioners there way back before they built the church and right after Fr Phillips' arrival in San Antonio. They were very involved in the early days. It is a beautiful church and both my parent's ashes are interned there.
