Don't let anyone tell you that you have to be in a specific ROTC to commission into that branch. For example: my husband was in Sq. 17, an AF outfit, he's now an Army Officer, one of his buddies flies helicopters for the Marine Corps. Be in whatever outfit excites you, regardless of branch, then when it comes time for commissioning, choose your branch then.

Even though I was in E-1 and was in AF ROTC from day one there were many folks theoughout the quad who commisioned into different branches than the branch they had worn on their shoulder for four years. One of the 06 guys switched to AF ROTC his jr year and there were multiple marines in the outfit as well.

Since she is the mascot of Texas A&M and E-2 is charged with caring for her, it's pretty important to take that responsibility seriously. No need to be jealous.

At one point it was taken seriously enough that they could claim that Reveille had never been kidnapped. Anyway, that was a long time ago and at least she didn't get shaved or branded.

Reveille was a chick magnet. I wasn't the mascot corporal, but I took her around campus on a few occasions. The biggest problem with reveille is you have to stop every 2 minutes to let hot sorority girls take pictures with her. Actually, most of us didn't mind.

I would strongly suggest that you attempt to understand the underlying personality of each outfit as it is now. I was in E-2 over ten years ago and I can tell you what the outfit was about and what type of people we attracted then - no idea how that has evolved/devolved since then.

The point about your fish class is on point - they have the potential of being your best friends for the remainder of your life. That being said, I would want to know what type of people they may be, hence the recommendation to research as stated above.

Finally, beware of anyone having a strong opinion against a certain outfit - specifically those taking a position against the Mascot Company as it probably means they spent the night with the outfit and didn't make the cut.

Here is a complete list:

1st Reg
C-2: Old Army Cocks. Classic outfit; nothing wrong with 'em, but not specialists at anything.

K-2: Another old outfit. Dominated by Marine Corps contracts, with a culture to match. Very strong at PT. Compare with H-1.

P-2: Integrated. GENERALLY "cleaner" than other outfits; does well administratively. Compare with N-1.

S-1: Integrated. "New" outfit (less than a decade old). Have a reputation for strangeness.

Sq. 4: Integrated. Specialized for Navy/Marine flight contracts and people wanting to enter 3-letter agencies. Brand new next year, but with very strong leadership.

2nd Reg
E-2: The mascot outfit, and also the "frat" outfit. Call themselves "Epsilon Deuce." They know how to have a good time, but often find themselves in trouble.

F-1: Integrated. Brand new outfit last year. Still working out their kinks.

H-1: Known for running and physical training. Have won an annual race called the Bloody Cross for something like a decade. Highest average PFT in the corps; hard people.

N-1: Integrated. Famous for drill and uniform proficiency. Wins lots of formal awards; "model outfit", but not as much fun for some.

S-2: Integrated. Brand new outfit this year. Strong leadership, but no developed internal culture yet.

They have a squadron for Navy/Marine flight contracts? I don't see how that could possibly benefit anyone. I somehow managed to become a pilot without being in a special outfit for flyboys. That just seems dumb, but on par for what's going on in the corps these days.

I can visualize in my head a unit comprised of flight contracts with visual acuity charts posted at each end of the passageway and an outfit SOP requiring the use of safety glasses for all intramural sports.

FWIW C-2 has had the best academics out of the 1st and 2nd regiments for the last two years. They were 2nd in the O-course and 3rd in Bloody Cross this year as well. Their new CO is from E-2.
