Any thoughts on them and how strong of an association they are and how competitive their rates are?

don't know but AAFMAA.com does the same thing. they are (now) open to all service, not just Army and AF like they used to be. extremely low price if excellent health.

NMAA is a good organization but I cannot say that their term rates are significantly better than USAA, AFBA or other such organizations. Their finances are very solid.

I have had a small $20k whole life (the Permanent Plus) policy with NMAA since I was a 2ndLt because it was offered in conjunction with a loan to buy uniforms. The policy was fully paid up after 20 years and was to have a death benefit at that time of $20k and begin increasing therafter but it has performed a bit better and is already at $27k after 23 years of paying into it. While I have most of my life insurance in term policies (SGLI, NMAA, MetLife) the small whole life policy that is now completely paid off may come in handy if I decide to cash it out.
