Visiting my brother's family soon, the sister in law asked if I would talk about the Navy to my niece's preschool class. Anyone done anything similar? What did you talk about.

I have been speaking at schools since my daughter was in the second grade. I speak every year around Veterans day. I usually ask them if they know what Veterans day is other than just a day off from school. Give them a quick lesson on the origins of Veterans day and what it means to be a veteran. I usually take in my pack, Kevlar, plate carrier and a few MRE's.

Preschool could be challenging.

Veterans Day is a good idea, as I will be in her class on Veterans Day. That may be a good topic. Thanks.

Any other experience?

i teach preschool and my husband is in the army and we are in a huge military town. Kids no matter what age and even if there parents are military LOVE soldiers. they love the uniforms, the weapons, the tanks. Keep it SHORT and to the point. They have small attention spans. They will want to climb on you and touch anything you bring. If you are wearing your uniform, some kids might be scared (we had fire fighters visit last weeks, most loved them, few cried when he put on his gear)

i would think of one topic to say, keep it very short and have stuff to show them. the teachers will/ should be there to help keep them in order.

have stuff to show them, they love army stuff and anything you can show them, they will love. second graders love to tell stories so make sure you keep it focused and when u ask them "if they have any questions" they will want to tell u a story so just say "are you telling a story or asking a question"
keep it short and show them lots of cool army things
for fathers day at my preschool, we asked the kids what they like about their dads and they all said "i like my dad because he jumps out of planes" and one non military kid said "i like my dad because he doesnt jump out of planes"

point is the kids love the military and anything you show or tell them will work, talk about your job and the cool stuff that you do, and your kid will be so happy his dad is talking to his class
