I've been shooting 3Gun matches for a little over two years. I do it for fun and personal training but not to the level of a serious competitor nor if the rifle failed me, my life wouldn't be at risk. That said, I don't recall anyone ever experiencing a serious malfunction with an AR15. AKs (surprisingly) are another story as are some of the "trendy" guns. I have two S&W M&Ps, a Larue, and a Barnes Precision (one that few have heard of but worth a look). It's been said that ARs are Barbie dolls for men. You can accessorize and virtually every part is interchangeable. If you just want something to shoot, you probably can't go wrong with any (unless Hi-Point has entered the mix)brand. Buy what you think you will like. As you shoot it and you needs/interests change, you may be able to modify or (like me) add another to the collection.
