Looking at purchasing my first AR. Currently leaning towards the Stag Arms Model 3. Anyone have other suggestions or familiar with the Model 3. Trying to stay under $1000 for first go round.

I've owned 2 Stags, Model 2t and Model 6 (now just one since I sold the 2t) both are great guns and I have never had any problems like FTE or FTF with either and have shot cumulatively over a thousand rounds combined without so much as a hiccup.

You may get a few more responses if you posted this on the outdoors board, but you won't get a consensus on an option. Everybody will just recommend the brand of AR that they own.

Enjoy whatever brand you go with. ARs are great guns.

Bought a Rock River Arms AR last year and have loved it. I've had no problems with it at all.

Before you buy check the Troy Defense 5.56.

I now own the Stag model 2t that agfan referenced and I can gadly say it still to this day has never had a FTE or FTF. From my perspective you can't go wrong with Stag arms.

I've been shooting 3Gun matches for a little over two years. I do it for fun and personal training but not to the level of a serious competitor nor if the rifle failed me, my life wouldn't be at risk. That said, I don't recall anyone ever experiencing a serious malfunction with an AR15. AKs (surprisingly) are another story as are some of the "trendy" guns. I have two S&W M&Ps, a Larue, and a Barnes Precision (one that few have heard of but worth a look). It's been said that ARs are Barbie dolls for men. You can accessorize and virtually every part is interchangeable. If you just want something to shoot, you probably can't go wrong with any (unless Hi-Point has entered the mix)brand. Buy what you think you will like. As you shoot it and you needs/interests change, you may be able to modify or (like me) add another to the collection.
