My husband went in later in life. Joined the Army Reserve at 33 and at the time officer cutoff age was 28 so he went enlisted. Swore in on Feb 9th and shipped to BCT at the end of March. After BCT he immediately shipped to San Antonio for 44 weeks of AIT. It was tough for him at 34. Not so much physical, but the maturity of the other soldiers. 44 weeks of living in a restrictive environment is tough for someone who is used to so much autonomy by that age. He's been with his drilling unit for almost 2 years now. Just put his E5 packet in and is hoping for a Warrant Officer position in the next 2 years. It's been great for him. He lost 50 pounds to join and has kept it off and remained very active.

If they reduce the army by half they can afford to be much more picky and it may be tougher for old guys to get in.
