Welcome back. I never understood the reasoning for removing the sleeve roll.

this is the Marine Corps version of "wag the dog"

They took away the rolled sleeves because the Marines in Irag had to wear them down during the heat so the rest of the Corps suffered along with them.

Did the marines do away with the name tapes after the first gulf war? I just don't see them removing that req now that they are interviewed like football coaches.

Can we bring back sleeve tattoos as well?

I thought the Marines doing away with rolling the sleeves had to do with hiding sleeve and arm tattoo's in the first place.

Marine uniforms did not have name tapes until after Desert Storm. It was a reaction to the press continually misidentifying Marines as Soldiers. Prior to 1993 the only time your name was on your uniform is when you stenciled across the back of the blouse and the right cargo pocket flap in black paint prior to a deployment afloat so that the ship's laundry would get it back to you. The swabbies loved that the Marines' utility uniforms had a blue tint to them by the end of the deployment from being washed with the dungarees.

And now they have blue cammies.

pretty sure the chucks on leave and libo was a hoax, but then again...i wouldnt put anything past the current commandant.
