Well how was his swing? Did he slice or hook? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm completely unqualified to judge a golf swing. However, the reason that so many Marines and sailors were gathered around watching was because the ship had just discharged trash and the seagulls were picking through it. The challenge for the golfers was to see how close they could come to hitting one of the seagulls that were landing in the wake of the ship. At least a few of the shots hit close enough to scare the seagulls into flight but I don't recall if anyone actually hit one.
