Daughter just married a new marine. He just shipped to Pensacola for 3-4 months of training.
Daughter wants to join him (lives in Spring now), but having a hard time finding affordable housing.
Anyone with similar experience and suggestions?

I lived there 10 years ago during training, there are some nice apartments near the univ north Florida. They might be dated now. However, I'm sure there are other newer apartments around town. How long is he there? Could they live in married base housing?

I've stayed in the lodge on NAS and it is fine. They have newer rooms behind it, but the main building is nice. Since he is TAD, he can stay there and she can stay with him.

Also, I thought about it and this aspect must also be taken seriously. Just meet on the weekends. I know your daughter wants to be with her husband, but there might not be a place for her to live in FL. Also I don't know how much money is available for them or you to spend. Like I said, I think Lafayette or Baton Rouge is halfway, and that might be the best place to hang out, go eat a nice meal, take in a movie, and spend the night friday and Saturday. That way it's only a 4 hour trip for each and it would allow them to see some if each other rather than none. Again, being a military spouse is tough. My wife has put up with 2 deployments and several TDYs. There have been times when I did bring my wife and daughters in extended TDYs, and there were others when I was younger where my wife and I did exactly what I described. I also just got back today from a two week trip. Here's to them working it out! Gigem and God Bless!

They're newly married and he's there for four months. They need to be together! Unless absolutely necessary, I don't recommend voluntarily living apart. My husband just started a one year remote. Sooooo thankful we didn't choose to live separately while he was in school last year. Be together when you can because you never know when the military will force you to live apart.

Sorry to derail, OP. I can't help with living in Pensacola

I lived in the governors gate apartments which is near the UWF. They are located between NAS whiting and NAS Pensacola. They were pretty nice when I was there 4 years ago. If I was to go back I would probably get a condo near the beach in Perdido Key though. Pensacola had some awesome beaches.

Anything near UWF will be affordable and safe. Stay clear of anything near NAS Pensacola.

Second on the Perdido Key idea. It's less than 30 minutes to the back gate of NAS and with the summer rental season ending, they might be able to find a good deal on a condo on a month-to-month basis. Also might check Orange Beach, AL. It's only another 10 minutes from Perdido Key.
