Currently stuck in an open bay filled with cubicles for a room. The dude in the cubicle right next to mine snores, loudly, every night.

Any (serious) suggestions on how to remedy the situation?

Listen to music through your earphones. Earplugs. Those all worked in 60 man bays. Also after patrols all day we eventually got so tired it didn't matter

Try soft foam earplugs put in just enough so they don't fall out. Drowns out background noise but you can still hear stuff going on that should wake you up. Will take some time to get accustomed to.

Foam ear plugs and get to sleep before he does.

The person snoring needs a sleep study to determine whether he has sleep apnea. If so, he has a medical condition that can be deadly. He may need a CPAP machine for his health. It will also help reduce his snoring. Talk to a medic or Doc in your area.

When I lived in a 60 man tent with partitions it was 24 hour quite hours, because you never knew who was sleeping or on crew rest. We had these fans throughout the tent (kinda like a box fan) that kept air circulating, but also kept great white noise.

Only when the base got attacked could you hear the giant voice telling you to get to a bunker....even then most of us just rolled over. We also lived right next to the air traffic control tower, and could hear every jet taking off all hours of the day. However, like someone else mentioned, after just a few days at work, you were so damned tired, nothing could wake you.

I guess the only exception was the guys who had a hooch right next to the tent door. Sometimes people would stand and have conversations near the door, or worse let it slam.

I dont recall ever having to deal with snoring. It was always other stuff that was going on:

Basra- rockets, rockets and more rockets. C-RAMs, damd wailing sirens and Brit 155 counter battery.

Bucca- GP Medium right next to the convoy parking/assembly area - convoys coming and going all night.

Gary Owen - freaking rockets

Jbad- 50 yards from the east end ot the runway. C-130's and 47's all night long. (There was that one set of Blackhawks that left rather quitely)

Abad- You name it. Right under the landing approach - 47's Apaches, Kiowa's, Blackhawks all night long. 155's and 120s too. (They finally got rid of the 155's).

Mehter Lam - 155's all night long.

Penich and Joyce - Always something.

As mentioned before .... you just get used to it.

When were you at A-Bad? Since its shutdown now I can say 155mm were back in 2013. We shot a fair amount for counter fire or for ODA in tics. Glad I got a recording of the giant voice saying "Attention on the FOB, attention on the FOB, Abad mortars are going hot". Except my guys and I were the only howitzer and not mortars. Still loved blasting rounds at 0200 or so.

Also true in those damn helicopters. We had a "chinook proofing battle drill". We lost our gate to the firing point from one (ripped it right off its hinges" and Blackhawks blew a guard shack we built over with dudes inside. Since they weren't hurt it was hilarious.

All of 2011. They flew the 155s out in February. We just had the 120's the rest of the time. ODAs used them to shoot down white flags on the big mountain across the river valley and the big ridge up the valley behind the FOB . Coolest thing I saw was the 155's shooting nearly flat trajectory at the mountain across the river valley.

Not my first deployment. Never had to deal with this irritation before, only most of the stuff you mentioned (plus small arms from angry Taliban types).

It's my camp cupcake tour.

And you would not believe how annoying it is listening to snoring every night, nonstop, even through earplugs.

Hahah. I remember they moved the 155s right outside our wooden shacks when I was at FML(fob mehtar lam).

Earplugs didn't help. The damn gun would literally shake the building. We'd always come back from missions with **** all over the floor. Couldn't leave anything hanging or left on shelves.
