When I lived in a 60 man tent with partitions it was 24 hour quite hours, because you never knew who was sleeping or on crew rest. We had these fans throughout the tent (kinda like a box fan) that kept air circulating, but also kept great white noise.
Only when the base got attacked could you hear the giant voice telling you to get to a bunker....even then most of us just rolled over. We also lived right next to the air traffic control tower, and could hear every jet taking off all hours of the day. However, like someone else mentioned, after just a few days at work, you were so damned tired, nothing could wake you.
I guess the only exception was the guys who had a hooch right next to the tent door. Sometimes people would stand and have conversations near the door, or worse let it slam.
