I can only speak for the Army, but what I see is a pack of GOs who have been fighting as MAJs/LTC/COLs during the last 15 years. Most of that was in the capacity as BN CDRs, BDE CDRs, etc and associated staff levels. But don't take my word for it...watch GEN Milley's opening remarks to AUSA when he took over the Army. Folks like him and those to filled his positions after he left are prime examples of patriots who tell it like it is and lead us in this unique environment.
You don't get the third and fourth star without the administration's blessing. Some people are shameless in their climb up the ladder.

Agree 100%. Every GO I have worked with was absurdly smart, hard working, & talented. Some were hyper demanding task masters, some were jerks, but all were very intelligent.
As for obeying blatantly illegal orders? Come on. Who is doing that? I would believe there are hyper political GOs who put their own career ahead of almost all else; however I strongly doubt any follow orders to disarm Americans. The ones I knew were as patriotic as anyone & took their duties very seriously. Not just a means to an ends (promotion), but an opportunity to make the Army better. There are DAs & police chiefs in every State who might prosecute illegal orders, but even they are in the minority, & don't undergo 1/100th the scrutiny a GO does.
