Howdy Ags, wondering if anyone would share their view on the VFW and the American Legion. As regards community service and involvement, which is better?

If you were in a declared war zone (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc...), go VFW.
The AL is for those who never went to war.
The AL is for those who never went to war.
American Legion is for all who have served in the military.
Veterans of Foreign Wars is for those that have served in combat zones, i.e. (designated campaign ribbon).
Some Post are just better than others, whether VFW or AL. Check them out.

my old man is heavily involved the legion (despite serving in Nam

Thanks, I'm close to Caldwell. Appreciate the different requirements for membership, but just wondered if any views on goodness of service between the two.
my general opinion is that you get out of it what you put into it. l
