I just ran across this video done in 1971-72. I don't remember having seen it.

Quote:

In the fall of 1971, journalism major Erik Friedl '73 began documenting scenes on 16mm film (shooting ECO 7252 and EF 7242 on the Bolex H-16) in and around Texas A&M University for a class assignment. Much of the footage centered around traditional Aggie lore, the A&M football team, Midnight Yell at Kyle Field and the building of the annual bonfire in November. Selected scenes were later used by the Trigon in a promotional film for the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. This video is dedicated to the memory of the 12 Texas A&M students who lost their lives and the 27 who were injured the night the bonfire stack under construction tragically collapsedNovember 18, 1999.

Check your email. I just forwarded to the '71 San Antonio group, and see my "snide" comment.

This is spring and fall of '72. Mostly stuff of that fall, my junior year. The shot of the zip bass drummer doing Wildcat in the stands is Joe Hallmark '73, White Band. Great stuff, never seen by me. Posted this on Facebook so other folks will find it. Lots of memories. WB'74

It's a shame that the people you remember (outside your classmates) the most are the seniors when you were a fish and the people you remember the least are the fish when you were senior. If Hallmark is a drummer class of '73, he was a fish drummer when I was a senior. He's lost in the mists of time.

Yep. Lots of pressure to know the three classes ahead of you but none for the classes behind.

I have often had the same thought.

Which is why I still whip out to upperclassmen I knew as part of my Band experience to help them remember me. Many do, but I never assume it

That was the Rice MOB '73 drill at the end. Things got a little dicey after we ran off the field as I remember.

Thanks for sharing. This was my brother's junior year and just three years before I was a fish. Great memories!

Yes. In 1975-76 anyway. I think they stopped doing that while I was there…. maybe 78-79.

Your post made me think.. I can pretty much tell you every upper classman's class from my fish year... I can't differentiate Pissheads from fish from my Zip year.... as you said , if i can remember them at all.

Hallmark was the bass drummer in the middle when you were the right guide, Jim.

I remember Thursday night yell practices in the Grove and then midnight yell practices in Kyle Field for home games. I don't remember if that was the case for all four years, nor do I remember whether the practices at the Grove were for all games or just home games. I'm '80, so this would be '76-79.

(Fish and pissheads had to walk back to the Quad in the street, and fish were expected to unmercifully harass pissheads on the way back by whipping out continuously. For some reason, fish Williams, Sq 12 '81, took particular delight in doing this to me.)

83-87: midnight yell before home game
Thursday Corps yell practice at the Grove before road games
Bonfire yell practice the night before the home game, and 2 nights before the game in Austin
