This sucks for a lot of people I know personally. And I have empathy for them because it took me a year to onboard to my current position.

After my clinical internship ended in December 2023 and passing all my licensing exams, I interviewed and was offered a job. January 2024 came and a hiring freeze happen during onboarding. Found another job in the meantime. Late July happen and funds came about, I had to re-interview for the same position and got another offer. Onboarding began again and started my actual job in December 2024.

This new hiring freeze is a complete blindside to people who already got a formal job offer and finished onboarding. One is a recently housed chronically homeless Veteran that is trying to get his life in order. He was supposed to start next week after we helped him navigate onboarding and boom, rescinded.

There are more that I know of.

Do y'all think this truly is a 90 day only freeze or these people screwed? Read below for another example.

I've dealt with hiring freezes in the past.

Typically, if a Final Job Offer has been extended (perhaps it must have been accepted) then the hiring action is usually completed. If not, everything is canx and must start from scratch once the freeze is lifted.

I had some contractors in the process of converting to civilian jobs and it all went to sheeite. It was several years later when several of those same guys finally became GS'es.

[edit] not to sound blase about the person in the OP... if they had a final job offer and had accepted it, then it should be too late for the VA to rescind it.

Thanks.

And that the VA did. Pretty crappy situation.

This is happening in other agencies. I don't know anyone that has had their job rescinded that already got relo.

If these people moved on their own then that was risk they took.

It's been out there since the election that there might be a freeze

Well when you accepted a formal job offer, already finish onboarding and literally start new the job on Tuesday….you've probably already quit your job a few weeks ago and moved.

Just a crappy situation

I am sorry it impacted you but this should not have caught anyone by surprise. Trump also had a 79 day freeze in his first presidency.

I'm just venting

Not the first and won't be the last time the government has shafted me. Army prepped me well

The VA just listed a bunch of positions they will continue hiring in, have you been notified?
