Had some Pupils for lunch at The Shanty in Cardiff.

Somehow I've never been to that tasting room, even though I go by it all the time. I used to go to the one near downtown all the time when I lived here before, but that was before they bankrupted the brewery.

I went by it twice today doing a little e-bike cruise down the coast. I think the reason I don't go is that they serve only vegan food, and I'm usually wanting something to eat with my beers.

Yeah we settled on some fries over vegan stuff … funny being close to crossing paths, shoulda made it happen - just had dinner in Del Mar and headed back to SD proper

I've been kicking around the idea of doing a big Belgian bottle share for my birthday in a few weeks. Belgians of all sorts are my favorite and I happen to have a Belgian neighbor (who also likes to poke fun of my Dutch neighbors about how much better Belgian beer is).

Any particular favorites other than the big Trappist breweries? American Belgian-styles worth searching out?

Also don't overlook Belgian wits.
You also have the Flanders/sours,
If you can get a hold of some Bruz beers out of Denver, they specialize in Belgians and do it very well.

Monkless in Bend, OR makes some great Belgians. Their farmhouses are great on a warm summer day.

I was turned off of Belgians (quads and tripels) for a while due to getting sick on them a bunch in college at Obannons. But I'm coming back around.

Real Ale makes a decent quad. I would definitely include some saisons. Saison DuPont is an obvious one. Fantome if you can find it is great. Belgian IPAs are great, Houblon Chouffe comes to mind. Belgian wits are a style that I'm not a fan of. I don't like coriander in my beer, it's great in sausage though. Blanche De Bruxelles is and outlier though, I love it. I don't know if anyone mentioned lambics but Framboise and a brownie make a great nightcap. Sounds like a fun party.

I really need to get better at checking dates. This one is egregious. Grabbed it in a hurry. Surprisingly it's stood up well. Definitely drank worse.
