So, I have had some prior experience with moonshine - although when and where it was distilled, it was never intended to go into barrels for aging. It just went straight into a Mason jar and was consumed shortly thereafter.

Big fan of RE here. The 3 "white label," ones are MGP. The full color BiBs are their own distillate as are the small limited gray and black releases (devils tower, foggy burl, screaming titan). The cask strength black bottles are actually blends of the MGP and CA juice from my understanding.
Their own distillate has always been better to me. Screaming Titan (high wheat 4-grain, 1 release this year) and Grizzly Beast (BiB 4-grain semi-annual release) are on par with OWA to me.
Picked up a bottle of Rebecca Creek double barrel spanish oak. Hoping it's good! Didn't like giving money to Still Austin. LOL

Just finished my first bottle of RE Pipe Dream Cask Strength. I enjoyed it. I believe that it is definitely worth a try.

Heard about this thread on the watch thread - just bought my first "allocated" whiskeys (which I know nothing about) so I figured I'd venture over here to see what y'all's experiences with these are and then maybe to learn some stuff for the future.
Just got into Amarillo from College Station on a business trip - went to pick up some whiskey and after a bit of talk and his recommendation (the one on the left, off the shelf) I guess the guy took a liking to me (or more likely just pulled a great sales tactic) because he started showing me allocated whiskeys they had. Picked the Kentucky Owl because I liked what he said about it, picked the Bulleit because I like their Rye and Bourbon.
I'll probably start with the Kentucky Owl tonight in the Airbnb.

Go-To: Wild Turkey 101
Favorite: Four Roses Single Barrel
Most Expensive Bottle: Johnnie Walker Texas Edition (from a friend - did not enjoy)
Always neat, other than the occasional whiskey sour.

Is that your guitar in the background, what is it if you don't mind me asking. As for the bourbon, I've only had the Whistle Pig 10 year and really enjoyed it. Was not a fan of the bulleit bourbons and ryes that I've tried and I've heard mixed reviews on the Kentucky Owl. Definitely let us know your thoughts once you've tried them.

Key thing is, just because it's in the glass case at Specs and really expensive, doesn't mean it's "allocated", which those bourbon bottles you have pictured are.

Yeah, it's a Taylor 220ce in Koa. Replacement for the 210ce I had stolen back several years ago when I was still playing shows. That one was the only guitar I ever picked up in the shop that just "spoke" to me. Even though this one is supposedly a more premium wood, I don't like it nearly as much as I loved that other one.
