My apologies, I thought you were able to get a GB Cowboy at that 140 proof. The 4 roses BP is one of my wife's favorites. She won't finish the bottle until we get the replacement from the Texags pick. And I couldn't tell you what recipe we have, but it's really tasty.

I bought 2 bottles of GB (not cowboy) and could not give it away. $70 bottles of lighter fluid. Not a joke.

This is a guy that thought of investing as the first 1000 owners.

I did buy a bottle of Balmorea. It was decent for $200.

As a rule, I think Texas bourbon sucks. There is a science to that.

I had a pour of Laguna Madre at the distillery, it was quite good.

Still need to try Laguna Madre, but my '22 Cowboy Bourbon is always an excellent pour.

Same here. The official unveiling was the following weekend, so I was surprised it was on the tasting menu. It was fairly unique and tasty.

As far as GB products go, you can't go wrong with a bottle of Laguna Madre or a barrel strength single barrel.

Their latest Cowboy Bourbon selections have been great.

And if you can get your hands on a bottle of Hye Rye, then you are sippin on some good stuff!

Find yourself one of these.

I have the Goody Goody store pick and it's one of the best bourbons in my cabinet. Love their Balmorhea, but don't care for anything else of theirs really (although I have haven't tried Cowboy or HR yet)

Prepare your taste buds for an interstellar journey with Galactic Whiskey, the first whiskey aged in the zero-gravity environment of space. This celestial spirit promises an out-of-this-world experience, quite literally!

Tasting Notes:
Nose: As you uncork the bottle, you're greeted with the faint aroma of cosmic dust and a hint of dark matter. There's a subtle whiff of moon rocks, mingling with the scent of Martian soil and a touch of stardust.

Palate: The first sip is like a supernova explosion on your tongue. You'll taste the bold flavors of asteroid minerals, with a surprising hint of alien flora. There's a delightful undertone of black hole berries, which adds a mysterious depth to the flavor profile. Mid-palate, you'll notice a peculiar sensation, as if you're floating in zero gravity, with notes of intergalactic caramel and nebula nectar.

Finish: The finish is long and lingering, much like the tail of a comet. It leaves you with a warm, otherworldly glow, and a final hint of space-time continuum. The aftertaste is reminiscent of a solar flare, with a touch of cosmic cinnamon and a sprinkle of supernova spice.

Overall: Galactic Whiskey is not just a drink; it's an adventure through the cosmos. Perfect for those who seek the extraordinary and have a taste for the unknown. Just one sip, and you'll be over the moon!

Texas bourbons. Hmmmmmm

1. I'm not a fan of Rebecca Creek.
2. I do like the Garisons. It has a different taste and aroma, so it compliments my bourbon collection with something that's both good and different.
3. I only drink Balcones as a mixer. Even that blue corn thing they do is not my favorite, but good as a mixer.
4. Never bought anything from Still Austin, though I would MAYBE consider trying it if it were free.

I've never tried any of the other hundred or so Texas whiskies / bourbons. But, I would guess there is at least one that I would like.

What Rebecca Creek have you had?

Because now you are saying you don't like MGP juice if it's the picks we have done or the 16 year. None of them are Texas whiskey.

Never had a Rebeca Creek TexAgs pick. Wasn't around that far back.

it's likely that 80% of bourbon that you've had not from a big 6 distiller is from MGP and just relabeled

Too each their own. Gotta drink what you like.

Some people enjoy lighter, low proof, vanilla noted bourbon and playing with German Shepherds.

Others prefer a nice stiff pour of cask strength Texas Diesel while smoking cigars.

I've had a lot of Texas Whiskey's and Bourbons over the years, if it is at Specs of TW and says made in Texas i'll buy a bottle once. A lot of it, especially the single malts, is so bad that i wouldn't drink it if they were paying me. Some of it thou is pretty alright.

Balcones - both the lineage and 1 are decent to even good and have improved immensely over the years. you can find either for about 40 pretty regularly and both are easily worth it at that price. Everything else they make (including the stuff that is phased out) is not my cup of tea. They were smart to transition to the ASM category as that is easily what they do best.

Rebecca Creek - the cheap stuff is as good of a mixer as anything, and the bottle of the BiB i bought was fine. Not great but definitely has potential. Obviously the MGP stuff can be really good. Given their support of the SAA&MC over the years, I am always happy to buy a bottle of their stuff.

Garrisons - Ill agree this is trash but to be fair i haven't had any in a decade and they have made huge changes to their aging process over that time. It could be fine now but given it's price I don't care to find out.

Blanco area distilleries - I posted a bottle i bought recently from Real Spirits and it was a solid effort. I'd put it at a good 6 on a 10 scale. Other have said that the Andalusia stuff is pretty okay as well.

The bottle of Unbendt ASM i have is also in that 6ish range.

As far as Still Austin goes, don't care, i'm not a sip and Nancy's notes are full of so much BS it turns me off entirely on the product.

Given the heat I would love to see more Texas distilleries use used barrels for aging rather than new oak, at least with ASM products, like Balcones did with the cataleja. Work with the heat instead of trying to copy what they do in Kentucky.

Its fun to see everyone's palate preferences on Texas Whiskey.

Still Austin is very good for how young the company and great bourbon. There older stuff will be amazing. Just because I don't buy their stuff doesn't mean its bad.

Balcones is probably the most disgusting bourbon I have ever consumed. You would have to put a gun to my head to do a barrel pick there.

Garrison Brothers has a beautiful ranch, great customer service, support our LEOs and Vets and produce quality Texas Whiskey. Similar culture to that of Rebecca Creek. I have met the master distiller, VP and owners. All just genuine people with Aggies on their executive team. They too will get better over time.

for me, texas bourbons ranked best to worse, of what I've had:

Still Austin - all of their offerings seem good and taste good every time I've had it
Iron Root - harbinger is decent but hit or miss given the day
Rebecca Creek - double barrel spanish oak, still getting used to it. Thought I'd love it more though.
TX - seems pretty average
Garrison - yuck but haven't tried their higher proof offerings yet
6th Street - pretty terrible the one time I had it

Double Barrel Spanish Oak isn't Texas Whiskey

It was distilled in Indiana…..

yeah I was going to add more to that but got lazy. Was going to say something like "It's not Texas whiskey but I haven't had their other stuff yet". But I was excited to pick that one up and have been so far slightly disappointed so wanted to mention it.

How do y'all feel about OLC's store picks in general? Do they try to appeal to the masses or find unique barrels?
Aggie Therapist
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Being that I am on those picking teams I would say....both!

While we do like a unique barrel, it can't be overly unique because we do have to appeal to the masses of TexAgs/customers to a certain degree.

But with that being said, we aren't picking out bourbon based on "well this is what 1792 full proof is supposed to taste like, so lets go with that". We do want something different than the standard offering because that is the whole point of picking a single barrel!

To be fair, my palette has changed over time. Also, whatever anyone likes/doesn't like, up to your palette.

Garrison - amazing place, people, *great* tour. If you have not tried anything above their small batch or honey dew, then you are doing yourself a disservice. The higher stuff is good but still might have a little Texas funk (maybe we should be proud of our state? ). I have had most of their stuff except for Hye Rye. The Laguna Madre does not have the texas funk (at least i could not detect it). Originally I used to drink a lot more of the small batch and single barrel, but after I got used to higher proof whiskey, those offerings just did not do it for me anymore.

Rebecca Creek - everything i've had from there has been really good except the blended whiskey very early on. I loved going there for the pick.

Still Austin - i've heard good things, but have not gotten past supporting the sips... i will at some point, I'm sure i could find a Therapist to help me with that issue.
