Need a birthday gift idea for my dad. He's a big Jack fan, hates Garrison brothers and thinks the entire Pappy line is too sweet. If that helps with recommendations.

Just had a few big unexpected expenses so budget is budget friendly ($50-100).

Was looking at the Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel (maybe the Penelope toasted) or Breckenridge barrel select.

Any other things I should look at before I get the EC?

I've got to agree with the other folks. A JD SBBP PICK, either the Whiskey or Rye would be my suggestion. You know he likes it and it being a pick (Specs or TW should have them) makes it different enough.

I will also add that as a person who loves Jack, i hated the EC toasted. If you want something different than Jack maybe a 1920 or Woodford Double Oak?

I really like the JDBP bottles. It sounds like your dad has all of those. I also really like like OFSBBP stuff. I think they are similar in flavor profiles. Not sure if you can find it but that would be a great gift.

If you need an ECTB I'd sell you if you're going that route. It sounds like you have them available though.

If you're in Houston, Specs on Smith St downtown had quite a few of those bottles last week. I'd call before you go.

At the sketchy store I got the GTS bottle, that was the only GTS bottle. Had Blantons for $120, Stagg Jr for $150 and W12 for $150 I think. I honestly think this GTS bottle was mis-priced, idk.

At the Specs downtown, I'm not sure. They have quite a collection though.

Mispriced based on those other prices is an understatement. You got a steal of a deal.

It's a fun place to visit! Went in 2023.
I didn't buy any of their whiskey after tasting them, but that may be just me. Closer to Houston is Kooper Family which has a really nice Reserve Rye - that I buy.

I appreciate that. I'm living in Pensacola and found a place here that sells Treaty Oak. I'll go with 1 bottle for now and see how much I like it. I'll have to check out that other place when I come back home for a visit. Thanks!

Seconded that it's a great place to visit.

I had a bottle of their Ghost Hill Texas Bourbon a couple years back. It drew my attention due to the heavy wheat in the mashbill - this was circa 2021 and finding decent wheaters at MSRP was nigh impossible. I also got a chuckle at their Red Handed bourbon story. It was an MGP product they started pumping out while to generate cash flow while their original 2 year age statement stuff matured. Red Handed referred to outfits getting caught red handed relabeling someone else's bourbon IIRC which I thought was pretty funny and self aware.

It was good not great. Tasted pretty grassy but not a bad little wheater for the price point. I remember thinking they just needed to let it sit a bit longer to taste less "green" and they would be on to something

I have not. I was browsing recently since I found someone willing to part with some Pappy's and was curious about pricing.

Your money would be better spent getting a Sagamore product, IMO

Blue Skies Foundation is hosting a benefit at the West Meadow Farm in Kentucky. They were looking for bourbon for silent auctions and volunteers to put on the event.

I figured a bottle of our Rebecca Creek Blue Skies Pick would just make sense for me to donate. A little representation from the Lone Star State and Aggies.

This event will directly benefit Gold Star families. I may not be drinking anymore but there is still a lot of good that can be done. I still love doing this stuff.

Thank you all who helped make this pick possible, our efforts are continuing to make an impact years later.

Are you looking for older TexAgs picks in general or just anything worthy of auction?

I wasn't looking for anything from y'all. Just being appreciative of TexAgs whiskey club.

But I'd imagine they would be happy with any bottles worthy of auction!
