I have made some deals with some guys who have 20 times the number (and price) of bottles I have.
I ask them how they got the bottles. Some have dropped a "tip" of managers of Specs stores every time they get a bottle "from the back". This leads to phone calls and more greasing of payoffs. Tips are dependent on the price of the bottle.
They also buy a LOT.

PSA: The Rio Brazos Wheated Whiskey store pick that's at Spec's on Texas in College Station is legitimately fantastic. I thought I had a misread on it earlier this week, but I came back to it tonight, and it's very good.

This has, without doubt, been the greatest contributor of me falling out of the bourbon "scene." I don't have time or inclination to grease things along. Sure, I could focus on smaller, unique stuff, but at this point, the whole charade is a turnoff. I'll just by a plain-jane bottle of Maker's for $25 and call it a day.

Ran into some older JD distillery series releases and picked them up
Also available Specs Fulshear - $199. A couple of bottles left.
These are so good, and probably my two favorite of the lineup.
Was happy to find some of the original maple finished. I was able to pick up 6 bottles (2 of which went to friends) of the current batch that was out around Christmas. Meant to pick up a few more from the distillery, but they ran out faster than I was expecting.AgCzar said:

I got the Maple and the Pecan recently. The high toast oak might be my favorite but the Maple is so good.
Nice. Last month I came across the pecan too. I like how it's 120 proof. A buddy was in the Memphis airport and they had the Jamaican allspice release, he grabbed a bottle and gave me a sample but I haven't tried it yet.
Let me know when you do! I haven't tried that one yet.
Saw this at Spec's today and decided to try it. Anyone else tried this yet?
