Eagle Rare is hard to beat for the money. I've also been enjoying OF 1920 lately, but $50+ may be a little steep for a daily drinker.

Blantons is the finest bourbon that can be had for price per oz

Followed by weller 12

In my opinion of course. But some of you whiskey hipster dou ches have ruined getting our paws on it very easily. And don't even get me started on you Pappy dou ches.

Your original response ...

Didn't hear one person in town or on the tours agree with you, including the Buffalo Trace guide...which is where Pappy is made. He said he preferred their Blantons brand but I didn't get to try that. Several folks said Michters was better also but I didn't get to try the expensive kind.

No way. Pappy is made there? OMG!

You seem like a huge arrogant d-bag. Not all of us are all-knowing bourbon folks like yourself, including me, which is why I started this thread. I bet there are quite a few people in this thread that actually didn't know that Pappy was made there, including about 95% of the folks on the tour.

If you were educating the board, I'm sorry. However your education seemed very directed at me.

If you can find any of the annual Four Roses Limited Edition bottles, but them immediately. But they will be hard to find. I've been fortunate enough to get three of them - the '14, '15, and '16. Hoping to get this year's release (please, Lord!). They are fantastic to sip.

The Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength releases are really good, too.

I do like Blanton's quite a bit and the Willett Pot Still. Eagle Rare 12 is a solid, low price point bourbon, but it's getting harder to find now.

Bulleit is a solid drinker, too.

Lots of good juice to be drunk!

How the hell has no one mentioned William Larue Weller when it comes to aged wheaters?

Blanton's is okay, but the export only Straight from the Barrel is much better, imo. Weller 12 is overrated. If you can actually find it at retail, its good, but its not worth anywhere near secondart prices.

If you are looking for stuff you can actually findamd is affordable, try Henry Mckenna Bottled in Bond or a good Russell's Reserve Store Pick, or 4 Roses single barrel.

If you're lucky enough to know someone in Kentucky, have them get you some Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond.

At the end of the day, everything is subjective. Figure out what you like, and don't worry about what other people say.

I was just kidding. Good thread. People all like what they like, and it's nice to get recommendations that aren't from the person at the liquor store.

I''ve decided there is no bourbon worth more than $50 for me personally. Above that price range the improvement is marginal for the $$. And really I'd rather stick to $30 since excellent bourbon and rye can be had at that price point. About the only thing I'll pay more than $50 a bottle for is scotch, because I find a large difference between $50 and $100 bottle.

I am not a snob/connoisseur and I mix with Diet Coke, so I prefer my <$20 per 1.75L bottles of Ancient Age, Kentucky Deluxe, Seagrams, etc....LOL. Flame Away!!!

My favorite I've had is Old Forester Birthday Bourbon. My BIL works for Brown Foreman (who I got it from) and now he even regrets giving it to me because he can hardly get it now! Lol.

I have no idea what retail is on it.

Best bang for buck for sipping bourbon is Rowans, Buffalo Trace, or Weller 12.

For mixing, hanging out with black Evan is great.

Fort Worth specs took my name and put it in a hat. I got a call several weeks ago that I got a blantons. They also happened to have a weller 12 in the back.

Still asinine that this is what it takes to get freaking Blanton's.

True, and the scarcity causes stupid behavior, which feeds the scarcity. For example, any time I see some on the shelf I buy a bottle. I now have 3 in my cabinet. I'm sure that there are tons like me.

I was at a store in Jackson, Wyoming recently that had a bunch on the shelf. Luckily, I worried about getting it home, or I'd have 7 now.

And this is from someone who usually drinks inexpensive bourbon in Coke Zero. It will take me forever to get through the good bottles I have. My favorite sipping bourbon right now is a bottle of Col EH Taylor Barrel Proof. Almost didn't buy it because I was worried I wouldn't like the 129 proof, but it's surprisingly smooth.

Not my favorite, but I've been drinking a lot of Wild Turkey 101 lately. It's available, it's cheap, and it's shippable at 101 proof.

My favorite b****** ** b*** whiskeys are still being stockpiled before the sheep catch on.

If you are hunting for Blanton's, keep an eye out for John J. Bowman. Exact same mash bill, but distilled one more time and aged in Virginia. About the same $$$ as Blanton's, but seems to be more readily available. Haven't tried the 2 back to back, but JJB definitely has an oakier taste. Very smooth, and easy to drink, but still has plenty of depth.

For something higher octane, Rare Breed is hard to beat.

I like the JD single Barrel. Their single barrel rye is also not too bad.

I sometimes get Woodford Reserve.

Daily I drink Jim Beam black. I also like their rye for mixing.

I've always wanted to try Four Roses single barrel. I may get that when my decanter is empty.

I know, I'm cheap. But I know what I like.

I know a lot of folks scoff at the big labels. But the big boys make some good whiskey if you get their better stuff. Not that Blanton's or Pappy isn't. (I've never been treated to such, so I really dont know!)

But I do like Jack Daniel's and I love their single barrel line.

I think you get what you like.

Goody Goody in Colleyville has a heck of a deal right now. $29.99 for bottle of Maker's 46 that comes with two bourbon glasses (pic below). I think normally they sale just the liquor for more than that. I just bought a couple to go along with the bottle of Blantons they had in the back. I think they may have more that they are keeping in the back even though the guy said I got the only bottle. They seemed like they were hiding something.

I actually prefer the Small Batch Four Roses to the Single Barrel, and it usually $5-6 less per bottle.

In the $30-35 range, it is hard to beat either. I also like Knob Creek 100 at that price point, but am fond of Beam bourbons.

I picked up a bottle of 120 proof Knob Creek Single Barrel during a distillery tour. Haven't opened it yet, but during the tour, we were drinking it unfiltered, straight from the barrel as the tour guide literally rolled the barrel over to fill the glasses. This particular barrel was 15 years old, and pretty damn fine. Awesome tour.

Not a fan of Larceny at all, but WL Weller Special Reserve is a steal at $20.

If you like the high rye in Four Roses, take a flyer on Old Grand Dad 114. I've bought it cheap at $20 in Kentucky, and it is about $25 in B/CS.

It is the same mash bill as Basil Hayden, aged 6 years, and at near cask strength. It isn't "hip" and is not going to give the most sophisticated palates a workout, but it is damn tasty, and a ridiculous bargain at the price. It stands up really well to a little ice, and despite the proof, I like it neat. Especially the second pour.

Pappy 15, 20, & 23 are about the only 15, 20, and 23 year old wheated bourbons on the market. If there are others, I can't think of them right now.

Therefore, they are the best 15, 20, & 23 year old wheated bourbons in the world. If old wheaters are your preferred bourbons, then sure, the Pappies are the best in the world. Otherwise, they're just absurdly overpriced old wheaters, and there is way better for way less.

Rock Hill Farms, Elmer T. Lee, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Stagg, Stagg Jr., Bookers. All phenomenal bourbons.

Disagree on the bookers but that's my preference, everything else I agree with totally.

The talk of Weller 12 on here today/tonight had me look up the time I remembered posting it was one of my best bang for the buck bourbons...

Turns out it was 4 years ago to this day. So sad that back then you could walk into any Specs and buy as much as you wanted.

Username checks out!

Also, anyone that proclaims one bourbon better than the other fails to understand everyone has a different palate. I find Blantons a marinal bourbon. My palate. My favorite shelf drinker is FR single barrel. If I don't feel like paying for it, regular EC will do. Again, just my palate.
