What's your favorites? Provide recipe if you can.

1. I always love a good Wassail.

Method A (quick route)
Crock pot
4 quarts apple cider
A couple of oranges and lemons with dozens of cloves poked into the peels (dont go the juice route, its so much better when the heat pulls the juice out through the cloves poked into the peels)
Some mulling spices in a tea ball (nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, star anise, cardamom, etc)
Fills the house with awesome Christmas smells and tastes great.

Method B (long route)
Core out 4 apples and fill with brown sugar. Bake at 350 for 30-45 mins.
Add to a crock pot or pot on the stove with the same ingredients as above

For both, add some port wine or decent cognac for a more lovely experience.

2. I also tried out a new cocktail inspired by Wassail.

2 ounces Applejack Brandy
1 ounce fresh squeezed lemon
1 ounce fresh squeezed orange
2 TBSP (good quality) maple syrup
3-4 Cloves
Dash of nutmeg
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of allspice

Mix together and let sit for 10-15 mins so the spices soak. Then add ice and mix again. Strain over an ice ball. Delicious.

Has anyone made Alton Browns "aged" egg nog? We were going to do it this year but my taste is not 100% after "The Covid" so I don't want to put the time in if it will taste weird. But if anyone here likes it, I'm up for trying it in 2021.

Go for it. Make it earlier than you think (pre-Thanksgiving). The longer it ages the better.

This year I did not get to it and I am kicking myself for it. The stuff is amazing.

Thanks, y'all. I had it on the calendar to start in November but just hated to chance it. Will definitely do it mid November next year.

carve the Turkey, turn the ball game on
Mix margaritas when the eggnog's gone
Send somebody to the Quickpak store
We need some ice and an extension cord
A can of bean dip and some Diet Rites
A box of tampons and some Marlboro Lights
Hallelujah, everybody say, "Cheese"
Merry Christmas from the family

Thanks for posting this song. Went and listened to it on YouTube and it put me in the Christmas mood.

Moved to Germany and we just started hot Gluhwein walks on the weekend. Basically Gluhwein is warmed spiced wine, perfect for putting in a yeti mug and taking a long walk through the countryside. I am not fan of wine in general, but really have enjoyed the heat of the wine with getting outdoors to take a walk in the cold. Perfect for these lockdown times.

So we have tried to make our own gluhwein in November using cheap wine and spices. Just turned out too bitter, but I think we over mulled it. Below is a recipe, but it is a bit of work.

https://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-german-gluhwein-238371

However what I do recommend to make it way easier is to buy a pre-mixed gluhwein in the store and then add some oranges and favorite spices in small quantics to taste when warming it on the stove. We like cardamom and vanilla in tiny pinches to improve the store bought taste.

Make sure to put it in a Yeti type mug, bundle up and then go for a long walk. It has been a really nice time for my wife and I to get outside, exercise, talk and just enjoy the holiday spirit. .

Man that doesn't sound terribly hard. I have all the ingredients except star anise. If I try it I'll post results and review.

I Used to love Shiner Cheer. Not sure if they changed the recipe but now it the taste is off or my taste buds changed. I still buy it every year at least once thinking it will be better this year.

Made a couple gallons of Alton's egg nog October 2019. Stored it in the beer fridge in the garage.

Fast forward to July or so this year, kids grabbed a drink out of the fridge and didn't close it all the way. All ruined. FML

I am down to my last quart. Looked in the fridge this morning but didn't spot it. Hope that it didn't grow legs and walk off.

My kids are 20 and 21 so nothing is safe.

Somebody posted a recipe last year that involved peanut butter bourbon and heavy cream and something else. Its hard to drink much of it, but it does make a nice "dessert drink".
