I've found this to be delicious, even when you buy packets from the supermarket and heat them up. Is there a good miso soup recipe on here that isn't terribly difficult to make? I do cook and am experienced. Sometimes I just don't want to spend a lot of time prepping but I will if necessary. Long time lurker and now a premium subscriber to this great site.

Hard part is finding the miso paste. Amazon is the only place I've been able to find it.

Central Market carries it. As does every Asian market. In DFW, the H-Mart (Carrollton, Plano) and Super Ranch-99 stores have it. In College Station, the Asian market next to Tractor Supply carry it.

The tricky part of good Miso Soup is that it depends on your local water supply to get the correct moutfeel. If your local water is too high in sulphates or too low on chloride, youll need to start with distilled water and add some calcium chloride salt.

I made miso soup yesterday. I started with homemade dashi made with seaweed and dried bonito flakes. I got white miso paste at Kroger. Maybe not the best brand, but I was happy with the result. I will make an effort to go to a proper Asian market and get some yellow miso paste.

While I am there, I'll get some dashi packets.

Homemade dashi is great, but instant dashi is pretty good too.

It was pretty easy but took about 20 minutes. I'd like the instant for when I'm in a hurry. And, sadly, it may be better than my dashi.

I love miso soup. It's comfort food, even though I didn't grow up on it.
