Out of curiosity, what beer are you looking for?

I ask because my local HEB no longer has Deschutes beers. Or at least it wasn't on the shelf the last handful of times I looked..

Talk to the beer section managers at your stores. They typically listen. They will bring things in on request and see what moves.

Or just Karen about it onTexags, whichever one makes you feel better in the end.

My old man yelling at clouds theory is that kids today aren't willing to put in the work to develop a decent vice. When I was coming up, you had to drink Natty light, smoke marlboros and dip Copenhagen. None of that came easy and you had to put in the work.

So the kids today drink booze that tastes like skittles and vape Hawaiian Punch.

That's not a bad theory.

natty light is hard to drink? Lol that **** tasted like water. And skittles were put in Zima, in 1996. Before that it was strawberry Maddog.

Now marijuana I get it. Back in the day you toked and your throat burned for 24 hours.

Now you just eat a gummy bear or a cookie and you're HAF.

Beer is generally an acquired taste. Even natty light. Best I recall, whether it was natty light, MGD, the Beast, or something else, most people had to choke it down for the first few months until you develop a taste for it.

I was searching for some Deschutes at my local HEB, and the HEB beer guide said they dropped Deschutes and a bunch of others because the selzters were taking over.

Yikes. What a horrific situation. Now you have to walk across the parking lot to Specs to get your black butte porter.

Saw this headline today. Definitely getting to the point where it's not just taking macro space anymore, it's taking craft shelf space. The Deschutes comment above is likely not just a one off anecdote. Could see seltzer continue to hurt the "mid-major" regional breweries like Bell's, Deschutes, etc. the most.

Man, that sucks. Karbach's seltzer is the only one I've tried and really liked (my brother-in-law is health conscious and buys the stuff). I expect it all to disappear as fast as it arrived.

As long as they make a product I like better, I'm okay with that. I do love me some craft beer, but Hopadillo gets some of my money, too.

Every ****ing seltzer has sugar.

I'd love one that's tequila, soda, lime juice. How hard is that? Why does everything need sugar?
The Michelob Ultra "Organic" Seltzer is 80 calories, 0 sugar.

Chipotle hit the nail on the head.

Seltzers are everywhere currently what the industry is showing signs that this specific segment is slowing down. If I recall correctly the original estimates where for "Seltzers" to obtain close to 15% total beer market share by the end of this year and the most recent models have those estimates between 8-10%. The big guys AB & MC have flooded the market with new seltzers with the intentions of capturing some of the dollars from White Claw and Truly. Both of which have slowed down significantly even with the innovation packages this year (go look at Boston beer latest earnings estimates).

Secondly, I think the RTD segment is going to be the next big thing. All the big brewers have acquired several brands in the last few years and those are going to be showing up more and more. As to why the poster stated that Denver has more in stores already is because Colorado has less stringent alcohol laws than Texas. I think with some of the new laws changing in September you will see more of these RTD's making there way into Convenience stores over time vs. liquor license accounts now.

Two main takeaways that are driving all of this innovation in my personal opinion are the following.
1. the beer industry is cyclical and brands the big brands change every 30 years or so. Bud Light has been dominating the beer category since early 2000's and still is the #1 but its days are numbered. As Michelob Ultra will eventually (2025ish) because the #1 brand but it will not hold the same market share that Bud Light had during it's peak.
2. The average beer consumer is not the same consumer of 20 years ago. They don't drink as much and do not have brand loyalty of the generations past. No brand loyalty and less consumption per legal drinking age consumer = the need for more variety at higher prices so the suppliers can capture the same revenue targets etc.

Just my insight and two cents, Cheers!
