After smoking my last brisket, realized I really wanted to vacuum seal the leftovers. Do y'all have any recommendations for a solid vacuum sealer? TIA.

I have the 4440 foodsaver and its handled any job I've thrown at it. It'll seal a whole brisket to sous vide both raw or finished. You can usually get bags at a good price at Costco.

I just get bags off Amazon. Costco have better deals or you specifically talking about FoodSaver brand?

Pro tip: If you vacuum seal some pulled pork you can reheat it sealed in some hot water. Best way to reheat pulled pork IMO.

I had an old, very used, foodsaver and it stopped sealing.

I called the 800 number to see if there was anything I could do before throwing it away.

Here is what foodsaver did:

FS: "Sir, do you have a pair of large scissors?"
Me: "Yes, why?"
FS: "I need you to take the scissors and cut the cord off the back of the foodsaver as close to the unit as possible"
Me: "Done. Why did I do that?"
FS: "Drop the unit in recycling."
Me: "Ok"
FS: "What is your address Sir?"
Me: "<Insert Home Address here>"
FS: "We don't make that model anymore so we're mailing you a brand new much larger one."
Me: "Wow! Thank you!"

Been going strong for a very long time. Buy FoodSaver!

Just to offer some variety, I bought a Nesco brand about three years ago and it's been great.

Get a foodsaver. I cheaped out and got a gerryon off Amazon after I dropped my Foodsaver it stopped working. Big mistake. I seal up meat all the time and ship BBQ out to family for Christmas and stuff. The foodsaver was a rockstar. This new thing is a piece of crap.

In addition to deer processing, we use ours almost daily for something. Freeze leftovers, seal an open tube of caulk so it doesn't ruin, seal up items that can't get wet in a cooler.

I bought this very machine, but haven't unboxed it because we haven't moved into our new house yet and it weights 100 pounds. Can't wait to use it. Plan on processing some deer myself this year.

OP, I think it depends a lot on what you're trying to do. I have a foodsaver because it's easy. I have a Weston because it's good, and then I have the Vacmaster because I want to seal large pieces of meat and do it very well. Foodsaver does ok job but definitely not nearly as good as the Weston.

I've had a Food saver for 15 + years and it quit pulling a suction and would run forever. I called FS and they sent me 2 sets of the "foam" seals. I replaced the seals and works like a champ again. Plus I have an extra set for 10 or so years down the road.....assuming of course I outlast the machine.

Not trying to derail thread, but do you have any pics of your setup? I'm trying to figure out what to do when I move into new house. Was thinking I'd get a stainless steel table that has shelf underneath to store both vacuum sealers and my grinder, but I really don't know what I should do.

Chamber sealers are good, but they are expensive as hell, bulky and heavy and honestly for 99% of uses don't provide any extra benefit IMO.

I pulled out some dove a while back out of my freezer that was 7 years old that was sealed in my lowly Foodsaver. When it thawed out, you wouldn't have been able to tell if it was shot that day or not. Made some delicious dove poppers out of it.

The only time I have issues with something is when I move around frozen bags too much. That is when something can poke or cut them and they lose their seal. But actual using it, no problems. I have replaced the rubber seals once on it in 15 years.
