I assume that I'm not the only one smoking ham this weekend. I've smoked ham before and its turned out fine, but I'm open to learning what everyone else does. Thanks in advance!

This is how I typically do it and have never had any complaints. Recipe says oven, but I usually smoke it.

1 precooked ham
1 cup honey
1/4 cup Texas BBQ Rub
1 cup pineapple juice
6 oz. Coke or Dr. Pepper (not diet)
Optional - 4 oz. Texas Pepper Jelly (Pineapple Habanero)

Total cooking time will be approximately 6 hours at 200-220 degrees.

Place ham in an aluminum pan so it can sit in it while it is cooking. Mix together the 1/2 cup of pineapple juice, 1/2 cup honey and 1/8 cup of Texas BBQ Rub and pour over the top of ham. Place the ham in the oven uncovered and cook for about 3 hours. After 3 hours pour the 6 oz. Coke or Dr. Pepper over the ham and cover the ham in foil and cook for another couple of hours.

For the final glaze, mix 1/2 cup pineapple juice, 1/8 cup Texas BBQ Rub, 1/2 cup honey and pour over the ham for the last hour of the cook.

As an alternate for the final glaze you can use 4 oz. Texas Pepper Jelly over the top of the ham and cook for one hour.

Thanks 512 / Coastal - I like both of those options.

One more question for the board - I need to have my ham done about an hour and a half earlier than its going to be eaten because I'll need to transport it to my parents' house. I am concerned with keeping it warm and I'm concerned about the glaze being ruined if I wrap it to keep it warm.

My thought is to smoke it and wrap it in foil without any glaze. Once I get to my parent's house, I'll commandeer the oven, apply the glaze and let it sit and caramelize in the oven for 20ish mins at 250 degrees.

Let me know if there is a better way. Much Obliged!

Is warming up the precooked smoked ham in a pellet smoker overkill or does it come out better than the oven?

Get over it. Peter did.

Quote:

Acts 10:9-15

[9] The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray. [10] And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance [11] and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. [12] In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. [13] And there came a voice to him: "Rise, Peter; kill and eat." [14] But Peter said, "By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean." [15] And the voice came to him again a second time, "What God has made clean, do not call common."
