What temp would you guys put a gas grill on if you're doing steak on a skillet on the grill and want your steak:

Medium?
Rare?

Turn burner on one half of the grill to medium, place steak on upper rack opposite of the flame. Flip once and pull steak and loosely tent once IT is around 120. Cast Iron can be placed over the flame while you're cooking the steak in the first step to cut down the time to get the skillet up to temp.

Let steak rest while you close the lid and set the burner to high. Wait about 5 minutes and drop the rested steak on the skillet, let sear 45 -90 seconds per side. Pull and rest 5-10 minutes prior to cutting into the steak. Timing will vary on thickness and cut. Buy a decent instant read thermometer (Thermoworks thermapen is money but you can by Lavatools version and it's half the price) to ensure you're at the temp you're looking for...130 for midrare as it will continue to cook once pulled off the flame.

I don't cook on gas often but have used this method to recreate a reverse sear on gas and it works well.

So this is the exact way I cook steak at home. I put my pan inside the grill, close it, and crank it up to high. Once the grill is up to temp and the skillet is hot, I put the steaks in and close it up, this way it sears and roasts at the same time. Depending on the thickness of the steaks it only takes about 2.5-3 minutes a side for medium rare. Make sure you salt them and let air dry overnight if you want the best possible crust.

Same.

Crank all burners to high. Place cast iron on grill and close lid to allow grill and cast iron to come to max temp and soak the heat (15 minutes?)

In goes the steak, lid closed. About 2 mins, then flip and drop a pat of butter on top. I use a thermapen to know when to pull.

Like Max mentioned, I heavily salt day prior and leave on a rack in the fridge.

The cast iron pan is dry when it goes into the grill, no oil, etc.?

Dry. Would be too hot for any oil.

Only time I do it on the grill is if we're hosting people and my wife would prefer to not smoke up the kitchen a little.
