A friend is going to Dallas for a conference next week and asked me what were the best option for real Texas BBQ in Dallas.

He has lived in Missouri his whole life and only knows about KC BBQ.

Told him I would ask BBQ experts because I know nothing about the BBQ scene in Dallas.

Said if he wanted to drive down to Lexington and go to Snows, I would highly recommend it.

I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal.

Read through the Texas Monthly bbq thread on this board. It's down a few, and will give you some good ideas.

Goldee's is apparently the new hit spot to go now. But it's in Fort Worth. I haven't been but the videos look absolutely amazing

I remember when Pecan Lodge was the place to go. My mom was born in Dallas and is 82 and they went to the original Sonny Bryans for bbq. Very nostalgic

If he is close to downtown I'd suggest Terry Blacks in Deep Ellum. It may not be the absolute best, but he won't have to wait in line for 2+ hours only to find out they've sold out of ribs/burnt ends/whatever. Plenty of seating and good bbq.

Hutchins in McKinney is my favorite but it's a 3 hour minimum commitment with travel time. Smoak Town and Smoke Monkey are my local(Rockwall County) preferences.

By far my favorite in Dallas is Slow Bone in the Design District. It never gets much love from the media so there is seldom a line. But the food is outstanding.

Not open because he asked how bad traffic would be and when looking for the address, found out it is not open until Thursday

CattleAck is elite. Amazing experience. But they aren't open at night?!? You said he was trying it at night or maybe I misunderstood.

Goldees is really good. Terry Blacks is a good suggestion. Only been to Hutchins once and it was solid. Lockhart isn't bad but not consistent. Then you get to the random places like Vacqueros that can be interesting.

Dickeys is a travesty. I can't believe it still exists.
