I have had two ThermPro instant read thermometers. One was the cheaper red one:

The other was the more robust looking orange one:

They both failed within a year. Taking them apart, the wires to the thermocouple broke at the point where it rotates. Any suggestion on an instant read thermometer that will actually last? I don't really care about cost. Thanks in advance!

I've used this one for years. Bought several as gifts for people and all have performed well.

It's more of a true instant read than the ones you were using as well (1-2 second read time vs the 3-4 of the ones you linked), and way cheaper than the thermoworks one that is similar. If you wait to around black friday you can usually catch these for 45ish bucks.

Ha Ha. It did actually. I was skeptical about an $80 thermometer (that looks like the Thermopro crap that keeps breaking on me) without having some rec's for it first. The Thermopop (made by the same company) also looks like it has good reviews.

Agreed. I took the Thermopro thermometers apart both times to see if I could fix it. They use cheap very thin transformer winding type wire to the thermocouple. It's probably 30ga with the red spray-on insulation. It had broken at the rotating point on both in under a year. Junk.

I've had the same thermapen for 8 years now and it's still going strong. On the same battery it came with, in fact.

fwiw, I use my Thermapen at Wurstfest to check pork chop temps. When chops are done, I'll often use it to lift and move the chops to the steam pans. We're literally talking thousands of chops over the years and still going strong

another vote for the Thermapen. had one ten years that still works. got a more recent model last year that reads faster and flips the display to always show upright no matter how you hold it that is great too.

and the sale on the Thermapen One right now is a great deal.

I spent $21.95 on this one 3 years ago and it's still going strong on the original battery. It's now about $10.

If you don't want to spend the money on the ThermoPen, then go for the ThermoPop.

ThermoPop Digital Pocket Thermometer from ThermoWorks

I've had one for about 8 years, and it's great.
