I enjoy a good bourbon on the rocks when out to dinner. Curious to see what any bourbon drinkers usually buy when out to dinner at "normal", and not fancy pants restaurants. Every time I ask the waitress if they have brand x they either look lost or have to go ask….and 10 mins later I give up and go up to the bar myself to look. Not looking for anything fancy but curious what most bourbon drinkers order knowing that most places will keep it in stock.

Woodford is hard to beat at it's price and almost always available.

Knob Creek. It's 9 years age stated. 100 proof (assuming it's not the single barrel at 120). Good in a cocktail, straight or on ice. Will be in 95% of whatever bar you walk into.

This is a dependable list, although I personally prefer Maker's 46. I'd throw in Bulleit and Elijah Craig. I'd say that any restaurant with a bar that doesn't stock at least one of those 5 is a restaurant you should avoid anyway.

My go to at restaurants as well. Almost always available and won't break the bank or offend anyone picking up the tab.

Woodford. Best mass produced bourbon there is IMO. Because of the mass production nearly every bar has it.

Good suggestions. Interesting side story that happened last night actually. I ordered a a woodford on the rocks which was delicious and went to go to the restroom and saw a glimpse of weller 12 sitting on the shelf. I asked the bartender how much it was for one of those and he told me it was the same price as the woodford…..I couldn't believe it so of course I couldn't stop at one. It was dang good, Now I want a bottle for the house.

Maybe I'm just too cheap, but whiskey prices at restaurants kill me, to the point where it's almost hard to enjoy. I live in a larger city, and the markup for whiskey at nicer restaurants is in the 500-600% range. Maybe this is typical for wine too, but I'm just not as familiar. It's normal to see something that retails for $30-40/bottle (~$3/pour) going for $15/pour at a nice bar/restaurant…seems crazy to me.

Yup, Maker's Mark is my go to. Delicious. Affordable. Easy to find.
