Recently moved into a new house and sold my previous grill so I am itching to get something in the backyard ASAP.

Any recommendations on grill / smoker combos? Or am I better off getting 2 standalone units?

I have been eye balling this Pit Boss combo for a long time and am close to pulling the trigger. https://www.academy.com/p/pit-boss-1230-competition-series-pellet-gas-combo-grill?gmc_feed=t&&ogmap=SEM%7cPLN%7cGOOG%7cSHOP%7cc%7cSNR%7cIM%7cNon-Brand-PerformanceMax-SportsRec-Recreation%7cRecreation%7c%7c18325033100%7c0&gclid=CjwKCAiA3pugBhAwEiwAWFzwdY3rMwuary1Tos_XUhgmT_b67RlIGZ7axxRY8j_nH6nv-nHjpGz8_hoCdvgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Wondering if this is the move or if I'm just better off grabbing a Weber Spirit and waiting to get a pellet smoker down the road.

I will be using propane 90% of the time for grilling burgers, steaks, chicken etc on the weeknights and have never used a smoker before but I am very intrigued at the thought of smoking up a brisket or ribs on weekends watching college football.

Thank you in advance for the help/recommendations!

We easily use our pellet grill for all of those things you mentioned. It's so fast and easy for weeknight grills. We ended up dragging our propane grill down to the coast bc I was tired of looking at it. Our weber kettle grill is sitting under a cover on our porch wondering what it did wrong in life. We do fish, burgers, meatballs just about anything you can think of on the pellet grill and it's so much better than the gas grill.

I'd vote for full pellet. As mentioned above, a pellet smoker will do everything you want and heat up about as fast as a propane unit.

Can't tell from the picture of the model you linked if the smoking chamber is big enough for a brisket but that would be my concern.

Totally depends on the unit. Our cheap HD grill heats up tons faster, requires less maintenance, and doesn't use up pellets.

I grill burgers/chicken, smoke ribs, fish, occasionally brisket and fancier steaks.

Not a good enough return on quickly simple things and I don't think taste noticeably different. I also already had it before our Traeger, so no real added cost either.

Why not get one of both

Fair point. I've just never been impressed with my Coyote grill. Also probably depends on your ratio of grilling/smoking. I do a lot more smoking than grilling so I'm okay with the pellet smoker taking a little longer to heat up. I'll fire up the smoker first and it's almost always up to temp when I'm done with my prep.

Since OP is exploring options, I'll throw a wildcard into the mix and suggest a griddle over a grill. Good debate on this here: https://texags.com/forums/67/topics/3353837
