I need a recommendation for a bottle of Scotch for a special gift.

Thinking $200-$250 range.

Looking at Johnny Walker Blue just by "default" but if that is what the uniformed folks buy, happy to hear other recommedations.

TIA

I'd go Macallan 15 all day before a Jw blue.

In that range I would go Glendronach 18.

If it is a gift What whiskey/whisky does the person normally drink?

Eta: if I were buying without knowing flavor preferences, I'd look at Balvinie 21 or Macallan 15 both of those are typically crowd pleasers and normally do not offend many palates

Both the point and the recommendations are solid here.

Aberfeldy is another choice. I'm fond of this one.

I love Lagavulin 16, but heavy peat is not for everyone, and unless you know that is something someone likes, I'd avoid it. Macallan 15 is always a good crowd pleasing option. My preferred crowd pleaser is Oban 14, and will be significantly cheaper than your price tag. Important thing to remember about Scotch is much like any other liquor or wine, the price tag is generally meaningless over a certain point when it comes to taste and quality.

I also like this one I got as a gift. About $120.

Ended up going with Balvinie 21. Could not find McAllen 15 - I assume X number of barrels are produced and when it's gone, it's gone?

Thanks for everyone's input.
